CHAPTER 10 — THE BROTHER WHO WAS ERASED FROM HISTORY

For twenty years, Daniel believed he was an only child.

That belief had shaped his entire life.

Every decision.

Every ambition.

Every sleepless night spent building an empire from nothing.

He thought he had no one left.

No siblings.

No parents.

No family.

Only memories.

But now, standing in a warehouse surrounded by secrets, Daniel was forced to accept the impossible.

His brother was alive.

Lucas Carter.

The name felt unfamiliar.

Yet somehow…

It felt like something his soul remembered.

Daniel stared at the photograph.

Emma standing beside a man who looked older, harder, and colder than the brother he never knew.

A man who carried the same eyes as his father.

The same Carter blood.

The same family history.

Jonathan watched Daniel carefully.

“Are you sure?”

Daniel didn’t answer.

He zoomed in on the picture.

The face.

The scar near the eyebrow.

The expression.

Everything.

It was impossible.

But the evidence was undeniable.

“That’s Lucas.”

Evelyn looked down.

The reaction was enough.

Daniel turned toward her.

“You knew.”

Her silence confirmed it.

Daniel’s voice became sharper.

“You knew my brother was alive.”

Evelyn closed her eyes.

“I knew he survived.”

The words hit harder.

Survived.

Not lived.

Not left.

Survived.

“What happened to him?”

Evelyn looked toward the darkness outside the warehouse.

“Your family destroyed itself long before anyone attacked from the outside.”

Twenty years earlier…

Before Daniel became the face of Voss International.

Before the world knew the Carter name.

There were two brothers.

Lucas.

And Daniel.

Lucas was older by six years.

He was everything Daniel was not.

Confident.

Fearless.

Brilliant.

Their father, Thomas Carter, believed Lucas would one day inherit the family legacy.

But Lucas discovered the truth about their grandfather first.

The corruption.

The hidden accounts.

The secret network.

And unlike everyone else…

Lucas refused to stay silent.

That decision changed everything.

“He tried to expose the family empire,” Evelyn explained.

Daniel frowned.

“My grandfather’s empire?”

She nodded.

“But no one believed him.”

“Why?”

“Because your grandfather made sure everyone thought Lucas was unstable.”

Daniel went silent.

A familiar feeling moved through him.

The same way Vanessa had manipulated the truth.

The same way Alexander had hidden behind excuses.

Someone had destroyed Lucas’s reputation before destroying his life.

“What happened after?”

Evelyn looked at him.

“He disappeared.”

Daniel stared.

“Everyone thought he died.”

“Yes.”

“But he didn’t.”

“No.”

She whispered:

“He was forced to disappear.”

The warehouse door opened.

Everyone turned.

A man stepped inside.

Daniel immediately knew.

No photograph could prepare him.

No document.

No explanation.

Because seeing him was different.

Lucas Carter stood there.

Older.

His face carried years of anger and pain.

But the eyes…

Those eyes were the same.

The same eyes Daniel had seen in old family photographs.

For a moment, neither brother moved.

Two men connected by blood.

Separated by lies.

Finally, Lucas spoke.

“You look like him.”

Daniel’s expression hardened.

“Where is my wife?”

Lucas didn’t answer.

Instead, he looked at Daniel with disappointment.

“That’s the first thing you ask?”

Daniel stepped forward.

“She’s carrying my children.”

Lucas’s expression changed slightly.

“And that’s why they chose her.”

Daniel froze.

“What does that mean?”

Lucas walked closer.

“Emma is not just your wife.”

Daniel’s eyes narrowed.

“She’s a target.”

“I know.”

“No.”

Lucas shook his head.

“You don’t understand.”

He pointed at the documents.

“The trust.”

Daniel watched him.

“The accounts.”

Lucas continued.

“The inheritance.”

A pause.

“They were never created for money.”

Daniel remembered Jonathan’s words.

A person.

Not money.

“What is Emma carrying?”

Lucas looked at him.

“The next Carter heir.”

Daniel became frustrated.

“You keep saying that like my children are some kind of weapon.”

Lucas’s expression changed.

“They are.”

Silence.

“Not because of who they are.”

He looked at Daniel.

“Because of what they represent.”

Lucas walked toward the table.

He opened an old file.

Inside was a photograph.

A photograph of Daniel’s father holding a newborn baby.

Daniel looked closer.

Then froze.

The baby had a small mark on his wrist.

A birthmark.

The same birthmark Daniel had.

“What is this?”

Lucas looked at him.

“Proof.”

“Of what?”

“That your father knew someone would try to erase the Carter bloodline.”

Daniel stared.

“Why?”

“Because our family controls something bigger than a company.”

Lucas removed another document.

A list of names.

Governments.

Corporations.

Investors.

Daniel’s expression changed.

“This is impossible.”

Lucas shook his head.

“No.”

He looked at him.

“This is why people kill.”

Emma’s location…

The room was quiet.

She watched Alexander carefully.

“You’re afraid of him.”

Alexander looked at her.

“Who?”

“Lucas.”

His face changed.

Emma noticed.

“You know him.”

Alexander didn’t answer.

“You worked with him.”

Silence.

“You weren’t stealing for yourself.”

Alexander looked at her.

“I was trying to stop something.”

Emma stared.

“By stealing from Daniel?”

“I had no choice.”

Emma shook her head.

“Everyone says that.”

Alexander looked frustrated.

“You don’t understand what Lucas is capable of.”

Emma stepped closer despite her condition.

“Then tell me.”

Alexander looked at her.

For the first time, he seemed ready to confess.

“Lucas isn’t trying to take Daniel’s company.”

A pause.

“He wants something much bigger.”

“What?”

Alexander whispered:

“The Carter legacy.”

Back in the warehouse, Daniel faced his brother.

“Where is Emma?”

Lucas looked at him.

“I can take you to her.”

Daniel narrowed his eyes.

“But?”

Lucas smiled slightly.

“You always were your father’s son.”

Daniel didn’t respond.

“You want the truth.”

“Yes.”

“Then you have to accept something.”

“What?”

Lucas looked directly into his eyes.

“Your father wasn’t killed because he discovered a criminal.”

Daniel waited.

“He was killed because he discovered the person controlling the criminals.”

Daniel felt a chill.

“Who?”

Lucas looked toward the door.

The answer came from behind him.

A familiar voice.

A voice Daniel had heard only once before.

The voice on the phone.

“Finally…”

Everyone turned.

An elderly man stepped into the warehouse.

Alive.

Calm.

Powerful.

Daniel stopped breathing.

Because the impossible truth was standing in front of him.

His grandfather.

Edward Carter.

The man who was supposed to have died twenty years ago.

The man who started everything.

Edward smiled.

“Welcome home, Daniel.”

Daniel stared at him.

His entire life had been built on a lie.

May you like

And now the man who created the lie…

Had returned to collect what he believed belonged to him.
