Chapter 7 - Twenty Million Dollars Missing
Richard explained the missing money.
The original trust contained thirty-five million dollars.
Twenty million had been moved.
Edward had used stolen company money to pay dangerous people.
He routed the money through accounts designed to make Thomas look guilty.
But there was another account.
A payment dated March 14, 1994.
Twenty million dollars.
Recipient:
Boston Children's Research Foundation.
Richard stared at the ledger.
“It wasn't a payment.”
“What was it?” Adrian asked.
Richard answered:
“A ransom.”
Marissa's voice shook.
“A ransom for what?”
Richard looked at her.
“For you.”
Everyone froze.
The truth was worse than they imagined.
Edward had discovered the trust before Marissa was born.
He knew she would inherit a major voting block in Whitmore Infrastructure.
So he needed her erased.
The twenty million dollars had been used to finance the protection network that moved Marissa out of Edward's reach.
