Chapter 11 - The Child She Gave Away
Elizabeth's recorded message explained everything.
She had given Adrian to Edward because Edward had threatened Marissa.
“If I kept you,” Elizabeth said through tears, “he would have killed both of you.”
Adrian watched the recording silently.
Elizabeth had secretly watched him grow up.
School events.
Birthdays.
Graduations.
She had photographs of him at every age.
She had never stopped loving him.
She had simply stayed away to keep him alive.
Then came another revelation.
Thomas had created the Continuity Project.
Its purpose was to protect his children if Edward ever tried to take control of the company.
Three names were hidden inside it.
Marissa.
Clara.
Adrian.
Then Ethan's final note appeared.
“I found her.”
Clara.
Alive.
Living under the name Anna Bell.
Richard found an old birth certificate.
MARISSA THOMAS WHITMORE.
TWIN B — FEMALE.
The second name had been blacked out.
Elizabeth finally confessed.
“I placed Clara with Margaret Bell.”
Margaret had been Thomas's trusted employee.
She raised Clara until her death.
Daniel revealed Clara was alive.
But she had been attacked.
Then every phone in the room buzzed.
One message.
THE VAULT IS OPEN.
A second appeared.
THE FIRST PERSON INSIDE WAS ELIZABETH WHITMORE.
The lights went out.
