Chapter 6 - The Locked Room
The computer drive contained recordings.
The first showed Edward stealing company funds.
The second showed him threatening Thomas.
The third showed him ordering men to alter hospital records.
Then came a fourth recording.
Thomas's voice.
“My children must disappear from Edward's reach.”
Adrian frowned.
“My children?”
Daniel nodded.
Thomas had been protecting more than one child.
Three children had been born during the same period.
Marissa.
Clara.
And Adrian.
Hospital records had been manipulated.
One child was officially declared dead.
Another was registered under a false identity.
The third was given to Edward.
Marissa looked at Adrian.
“You?”
Adrian couldn't answer.
Richard finally said:
“Your mother gave you to Edward.”
Marissa stared at him.
“Why?”
“To keep you alive.”
The room fell silent.
Then Richard received a call.
The Vermont house had been broken into.
Elizabeth was gone.
A photograph arrived on Adrian's phone.
Elizabeth alive.
Then a message:
“RETURN THE TRUST.”
May you like
A second message followed.
“OR THE NEXT PHOTO WILL BE OF HER DEAD.”
