Chapter 19 - The Man Who Came Back From the Dead

Nobody moved.
Thomas stood beneath the bridge.
Thirty-two years older.
Scarred.
Thin.
Alive.
Marissa whispered:
“You're dead.”
Thomas shook his head.
“I was supposed to be.”
Richard began to cry.
Samuel laughed through his tears.
“I knew you were impossible to kill.”
Thomas looked at Daniel.
“You betrayed me.”
Daniel lowered his head.
“I know.”
Thomas turned toward Edward.
“You failed.”
Edward's face twisted.
“You should have stayed dead.”
Thomas answered:
“I tried.”
He explained what happened.
He survived the crash.
Samuel and another doctor secretly moved him before Edward could finish killing him.
Thomas spent years recovering under false identities.
He stayed away because Edward still controlled the company.
He watched his children from a distance.
He knew Elizabeth was protecting them.
He knew Ethan had discovered the truth.
But he couldn't return until the evidence was safe.
Marissa cried.
“Why didn't you come for me?”
Thomas looked at her.
“Because every time I tried, someone died.”
She stared at him.
“I hated you.”
“I know.”
“I thought you abandoned me.”
“I know.”
Thomas reached for her hand.
“I wanted you more than anything.”
Adrian stepped forward.
“My son,” Thomas whispered.
Adrian's eyes filled with tears.
“You knew me?”
“I saw you the day you were born.”
Thomas remembered the moment.
Adrian had been screaming.
Elizabeth had been crying.
Thomas had been terrified.
“I knew Edward would come for you.”
Adrian looked at him.
“He raised me.”
“No.”
Thomas shook his head.
“He controlled you.”
That distinction mattered.
Then Thomas looked at Edward.
“You wanted my company.”
Edward laughed.
“I wanted what you refused to give me.”
“The company was never yours.”
Thomas turned toward Marissa.
“It belongs to the family.”
Edward's expression changed.
He finally understood.
The trust.
The shares.
The evidence.
The heirs.
