Chapter 7 - The First Proof of Betrayal

The next morning, Charlotte returned to the Solmere Hotel.
But this time...
she did not enter disguised.
She walked through the front doors wearing a black tailored suit.
No fear.
No hesitation.
No attempt to hide.
Every employee recognized her.
And every person who had ignored her the day before looked away.
The same lobby.
The same marble floor.
The same place where Victoria Laurent dragged her like she was nothing.
But everything had changed.
Because now everyone knew.
Charlotte Vale had returned.
The rightful owner.
The missing heir.
The woman they underestimated.
At the front desk, the receptionist immediately stood.
“Miss Vale.”
Charlotte looked at her.
The woman lowered her eyes.
“I apologize for yesterday.”
Charlotte remained silent.
Not because she wanted revenge.
Because she wanted something more valuable.
The truth.
“Where is Adrian Cross?”
The receptionist swallowed.
“Executive floor.”
Charlotte walked toward the elevator.
This time...
nobody stopped her.
Inside the executive office, Adrian watched the security cameras.
He saw Charlotte entering.
He saw the confidence in her steps.
And he understood something.
The woman who disappeared three years ago was gone.
This Charlotte was different.
More focused.
More dangerous.
His assistant entered.
“Mr. Cross.”
“What?”
“We found something.”
Adrian turned.
The assistant placed a folder on the desk.
“Daniel Reeves was seen with Charlotte last night.”
Adrian’s expression changed.
Impossible.
Daniel was supposed to be gone.
“Find him.”
“We are trying.”
“No.”
Adrian looked at the camera.
“Find what he gave her.”
Charlotte entered the executive floor.
Adrian was waiting.
“You look different.”
Charlotte ignored the comment.
“I found the hidden archive.”
For the first time...
Adrian went completely still.
Only for a second.
But Charlotte saw it.
“You know about it.”
Adrian recovered.
“I know your mother had secrets.”
Charlotte placed a document on his desk.
“Not anymore.”
Adrian looked down.
It was a copy of the Project Phoenix file.
His face remained calm.
But his eyes changed.
“You should be careful with information you don’t understand.”
Charlotte smiled.
“That sounds like a threat.”
“It’s advice.”
“No.”
She stepped closer.
“It’s fear.”
The room went silent.
Adrian looked at her.
“You think finding old documents means you won?”
Charlotte shook her head.
“No.”
She placed another item on the table.
A recording device.
“You forgot about this.”
Adrian frowned.
Charlotte pressed play.
A voice filled the room.
Adrian’s voice.
From three years ago.
"Once Richard signs the transfer documents, Charlotte will have nothing left."
Adrian froze.
Charlotte watched him carefully.
“You remember that conversation?”
No answer.
“You should.”
Because the recording proved one thing.
Adrian had planned everything.
But Charlotte was not finished.
She placed another file beside it.
“Financial records.”
Another.
“Hidden accounts.”
Another.
“Payments to offshore companies.”
Adrian stared at the evidence.
For the first time...
he looked cornered.
But then something unexpected happened.
He smiled.
Charlotte noticed.
“What?”
Adrian leaned back.
“You still don’t understand.”
“Understand what?”
“That everything you found…”
He looked at her.
“Was meant to be found.”
Charlotte’s expression changed.
“What?”
Adrian smiled coldly.
“You think you are uncovering my secrets.”
A pause.
“But you are following the path I created.”
Charlotte felt a chill.
Because for the first time...
she wondered if Adrian was telling the truth.
Had she been investigating him?
Or had someone been guiding her?
Adrian stood.
“Welcome to the real game, Charlotte.”
He walked past her.
“You found the first layer.”
He stopped at the door.
“But the person controlling this empire…”
He looked back.
“Is someone you never suspected.”
Charlotte remained silent.
Because deep inside...
May you like
she already knew.
The battle for Solmere had only begun.
