Chapter 3 - The Man Who Stole Her Crown

The executive floor of the Solmere Hotel had always represented control.
Glass walls.
Private offices.
Expensive artwork.
A view of the entire city.
For years, Adrian Cross had stood in this exact place believing he was untouchable.
Today, Charlotte Vale walked through those same doors.
And everyone felt the difference.
The employees stopped talking.
Executives looked away.
Assistants whispered.
Because rumors moved faster than official announcements.
Everyone knew something had happened downstairs.
But nobody knew the truth.
Adrian walked beside Charlotte.
His expression remained professional.
Almost fatherly.
Anyone watching from outside would think he was welcoming back a lost family member.
Charlotte knew better.
This was the same man who attended her mother’s funeral.
The same man who hugged her.
The same man who told her:
“Your family legacy is safe with me.”
And then secretly tried to erase her from it.
They entered the boardroom.
Ten executives were waiting.
Most of them looked uncomfortable.
At the end of the table sat Evelyn Hart.
The current chairwoman of Solmere Holdings.
The woman who signed every decision Adrian wanted approved.
Charlotte recognized her immediately.
Another person who betrayed her.
Evelyn stood.
“Charlotte.”
Her voice sounded surprised.
But her eyes were calculating.
“We were told you were not returning.”
Charlotte placed her folder on the table.
“I was told many things.”
Nobody spoke.
Charlotte opened the folder.
“I was told my mother’s company was losing money.”
She placed a document down.
“That was false.”
Another document.
“I was told the board removed me legally.”
Another document.
“That was false.”
Another.
“I was told my inheritance was transferred according to my mother’s wishes.”
Charlotte looked directly at Adrian.
“That was also false.”
The room became silent.
Adrian leaned back.
“You came prepared.”
Charlotte smiled slightly.
“I had three years to prepare.”
Adrian looked around.
“Charlotte, grief can make people misunderstand situations.”
She almost laughed.
Even now.
Even with evidence in front of him.
He was still pretending.
“You convinced everyone I was unstable.”
“No.”
Adrian shook his head.
“I protected the company from emotional decisions.”
Charlotte stared at him.
“That is your defense?”
“Yes.”
A pause.
“Everyone here knows how difficult the years after your mother’s death were.”
Charlotte looked at the executives.
And she realized something.
They were afraid.
Not of her.
Of Adrian.
That was the real reason he survived.
Not because he was powerful.
Because he controlled people through fear.
Charlotte reached into her bag.
She placed a small device on the table.
Everyone noticed.
“What is that?” Evelyn asked.
Charlotte answered calmly.
“A recording.”
Adrian’s face changed slightly.
Only slightly.
But Charlotte noticed.
Inside the device was a conversation recorded six months earlier.
A conversation between Adrian and several executives.
A conversation where they discussed removing Charlotte permanently.
A conversation where Adrian said:
“Once Charlotte disappears from the company records, the empire becomes ours.”
Nobody moved.
Nobody breathed.
Charlotte pressed play.
Adrian’s own voice filled the room.
The color disappeared from several faces.
Because the truth had finally entered the room.
And truth was something Adrian Cross could not negotiate with.
The recording ended.
Charlotte looked at everyone.
“This company was stolen.”
Silence.
Then Adrian slowly stood.
The friendly mask was gone.
The real man appeared.
Cold.
Calculated.
Dangerous.
“You think one recording changes everything?”
Charlotte looked at him.
“No.”
She closed the folder.
“I think the next one does.”
Adrian froze.
“The next one?”
Charlotte smiled.
“Yes.”
She leaned forward.
“The one proving my mother did not die naturally.”
The entire room stopped.
Because nobody expected that.
Adrian stared at her.
For the first time...
he looked afraid.
Charlotte stood.
“I didn’t come back to take my company.”
She looked around the room.
“I came back to expose the people who murdered my family’s future.”
Then she walked toward the door.
Behind her, Adrian remained silent.
Because he finally understood.
This was no longer a battle over ownership.
May you like
It was a war.
And Charlotte Vale had just declared it.
