Chapter 1 - The Woman They Tried to Erase

The Solmere Hotel had always been a symbol of power.
For decades, its golden emblem had represented wealth, influence, and an empire built by one of the most respected families in the country.
The Vale family name was carved into every corner of the building.
The marble floors.
The crystal chandeliers.
The private executive offices overlooking the city skyline.
Everyone who entered the Solmere Hotel knew one thing.
This was not just a hotel.
It was a kingdom.
And kingdoms always had enemies.
Charlotte Vale stood outside the grand entrance, staring through the glass doors at the empire that belonged to her.
The empire that had been stolen from her.
She looked nothing like the woman whose name appeared on the ownership documents hidden inside a secure vault.
Her usual designer clothes were gone.
Her jewelry was gone.
Her security team was nowhere near her.
Today, Charlotte looked like someone nobody would notice.
A simple black tank top.
Faded jeans.
Plain shoes.
A woman with no status.
No money.
No power.
Exactly how her enemies wanted her to appear.
Charlotte slowly touched the small folder hidden inside her bag.
Inside were copies of documents that could destroy the people who had betrayed her.
Bank records.
Illegal transfers.
Forged signatures.
Secret agreements.
Proof that the people running the Solmere Empire had spent years preparing to remove her from her own inheritance.
And the person at the center of it all...
was someone Charlotte once trusted.
Adrian Cross.
Her mother’s closest business adviser.
The man who stood beside Charlotte after her mother died.
The man who looked her in the eyes and promised:
“I will protect everything your family built.”
Charlotte had believed him.
Until she discovered the truth.
Adrian was not protecting the empire.
He was stealing it.
For three years, he had slowly replaced loyal employees with his own people.
He had manipulated board members.
Hidden financial losses.
Created false reports.
And when Charlotte finally uncovered the evidence...
he made sure everyone believed she was unstable.
A grieving daughter who could not accept reality.
A woman who had lost her mind after losing her mother.
The world believed him.
But Charlotte knew something they did not.
Truth did not disappear.
It only waited.
And today...
it was coming back.
Charlotte pushed open the doors of the Solmere Hotel.
The moment she stepped inside, memories rushed through her mind.
She remembered walking through this lobby as a child.
Holding her mother’s hand.
Listening as employees greeted them.
“Good morning, Miss Vale.”
She remembered the pride in her mother’s voice.
“This place will one day belong to you, Charlotte.”
At the time, Charlotte never understood what those words meant.
Now she did.
And she also understood something else.
People would do anything to steal a kingdom.
Even destroy the person meant to inherit it.
Charlotte walked toward the front desk.
The receptionist looked up.
Her expression changed immediately.
Not because she recognized Charlotte.
But because she judged her.
The woman glanced at Charlotte’s clothes.
Then her face.
Then back at her clothes.
“Can I help you?”
Her tone was polite.
But cold.
“I need to see the executive offices,” Charlotte said.
The receptionist almost laughed.
“The executive offices?”
“Yes.”
“Do you have an appointment?”
“No.”
The receptionist leaned back.
“Then I’m afraid you cannot go upstairs.”
Charlotte remained calm.
“I am not asking for permission.”
The receptionist’s expression hardened.
“Miss, this is a private area.”
Before Charlotte could respond, another voice interrupted.
“Well, well.”
Charlotte turned.
A woman walked across the lobby.
Elegant.
Beautiful.
Confident.
And completely unaware that she was walking toward her own downfall.
Victoria Laurent.
One of the most famous socialites in the city.
A woman known for expensive parties, luxury brands, and a close relationship with the current Solmere executives.
She wore a white silk gown that probably cost more than most people earned in a year.
Her heels clicked against the marble floor.
Her smile was cruel.
“I heard there was someone causing trouble downstairs.”
The receptionist immediately stepped aside.
“Miss Laurent, this woman claims she needs access to the executive floor.”
Victoria looked Charlotte up and down.
Then smiled.
“You?”
Charlotte said nothing.
Victoria laughed softly.
“Do you know where you are?”
“Yes.”
“This is the Solmere Hotel.”
“I know.”
“No.”
Victoria stepped closer.
“You clearly don’t.”
She looked around the lobby.
“At this hotel, people have names.”
“They have reputations.”
“They have power.”
Then she looked back at Charlotte.
“And people like you?”
She smiled.
“People like you are guests only until security removes you.”
Charlotte stared at her.
“You have no idea who you are speaking to.”
Victoria laughed.
“That line is always used by people who have nothing.”
Charlotte felt anger rising.
But she controlled it.
Because today was not about emotion.
It was about proof.
It was about justice.
“I suggest you move aside.”
Victoria’s smile disappeared.
The people nearby started watching.
She hated being challenged.
Especially by someone she believed was beneath her.
“You actually think you can order me around?”
Charlotte turned away.
That was the moment Victoria lost control.
Her hand grabbed Charlotte’s arm.
Hard.
“Don’t walk away from me.”
The entire lobby froze.
Charlotte looked down at Victoria’s hand.
Then slowly looked back at her.
“Remove your hand.”
Victoria tightened her grip.
“You should learn your place.”
A crowd began forming.
Nobody knew they were witnessing history.
Nobody knew the woman standing in the center of the lobby owned every inch of marble beneath their feet.
And nobody knew that within hours...
the people laughing at Charlotte Vale would be begging for forgiveness.
Victoria pulled harder.
Charlotte stumbled.
The folder inside her bag fell slightly open.
A corner of a document became visible.
Victoria noticed.
“What is that?”
Charlotte quickly grabbed it.
But it was too late.
Victoria’s eyes narrowed.
“You came here with documents?”
A dangerous smile appeared on her face.
“So you planned this little performance?”
Charlotte stared at her.
“No.”
She lowered her voice.
“I came here to take back what was stolen from me.”
Victoria laughed.
The entire lobby heard it.
“You?”
She looked around.
“She thinks she owns this place.”
People laughed nervously.
Charlotte said nothing.
Because she knew something Victoria did not.
The truth did not need to shout.
It only needed to arrive.
And it was already on its way.
Because upstairs...
inside the executive offices...
the first person who knew Charlotte Vale had returned was already looking at the security cameras.
Adrian Cross watched the screen.
His face turned pale.
After three years...
the heir he thought he destroyed...
was standing inside her own empire.
And for the first time in years...
Adrian felt afraid.
Because Charlotte Vale was no longer the grieving daughter he manipulated.
She was the storm he created.
May you like
And now...
he had to survive it.
