Chapter 14 - The Greatest Betrayal

For forty-eight hours, Charlotte Vale disappeared from the public eye.
The world assumed she was losing.
The media continued attacking her.
Investors questioned her.
The board prepared to remove her permanently.
And Adrian Cross believed he had finally regained control.
But what nobody understood...
was that Charlotte was not hiding.
She was preparing.
For years, her enemies had controlled the story.
They decided what people believed.
They decided who was guilty.
They decided who had power.
Charlotte was about to take that power away.
Inside her private office, she studied every piece of evidence.
The recordings.
The financial records.
The hidden accounts.
The names connected to Blackthorne.
But one thing continued to bother her.
Daniel Reeves.
He admitted leaking the documents.
He admitted Richard ordered him.
But Charlotte knew Daniel.
He was many things.
Broken.
Afraid.
Guilty.
But not a traitor.
Not willingly.
There was another reason.
Someone had forced him.
Someone had controlled him.
Just like everyone else.
Charlotte looked at the timeline.
Then she noticed something.
A pattern.
Every person connected to the conspiracy had one thing in common.
They were protecting someone.
Adrian protected Blackthorne.
Evelyn protected Adrian.
Daniel protected Richard.
Richard protected Charlotte.
Everyone was hiding the same person.
The person at the center.
The person nobody wanted to name.
Two hours before the Solmere Tower meeting, Charlotte received an unexpected visitor.
Victoria Laurent.
The socialite from the hotel lobby.
The woman who humiliated her.
The woman who believed Charlotte was nobody.
Charlotte looked at her coldly.
“I’m surprised you found my office.”
Victoria removed her sunglasses.
For the first time, she did not look arrogant.
She looked afraid.
“I need your help.”
Charlotte almost smiled.
“Interesting.”
Victoria looked down.
“I know you hate me.”
“You dragged me across a hotel floor.”
Victoria closed her eyes.
“I know.”
“You humiliated me.”
“I know.”
“Then why are you here?”
Victoria took a breath.
“Because I was wrong.”
Charlotte said nothing.
Victoria placed a small envelope on the desk.
“I found this in Adrian’s apartment.”
Charlotte opened it.
Inside was a photograph.
A recent photograph.
Of Adrian.
Standing beside the person Charlotte had been searching for.
The person controlling everything.
Charlotte’s expression changed.
Because she knew that face.
Everyone knew that face.
A man who was supposed to be dead.
A man who disappeared years ago.
A man whose name was never supposed to return.
Richard Vale.
Charlotte looked at Victoria.
“This is impossible.”
Victoria shook her head.
“I thought so too.”
Charlotte stared at the photograph.
“Why would Adrian have this?”
Victoria answered quietly:
“Because Adrian wasn’t controlling your father.”
A pause.
“Your father was controlling Adrian.”
The room became silent.
Charlotte returned to Solmere Tower at exactly noon.
Every major executive was present.
Every camera was ready.
Every journalist waited outside.
Adrian stood at the center of the room.
Smiling.
“Charlotte.”
She walked in.
Calm.
Confident.
“You came.”
Charlotte looked around.
“I said I would.”
Evelyn smiled.
“Before we begin, I think everyone should know something.”
A screen behind her turned on.
A video appeared.
Charlotte watched.
Her own father.
Richard Vale.
Speaking.
The recording showed him discussing the transfer of Solmere assets.
His voice was clear.
“I authorize Adrian Cross to assume control.”
The room erupted.
Executives whispered.
Cameras flashed.
Charlotte remained silent.
Because she knew.
This was the moment they planned.
They wanted her emotional.
They wanted her angry.
They wanted her to deny everything.
Instead...
she smiled.
Adrian noticed.
“Something funny?”
Charlotte looked at him.
“You still don’t understand.”
“What?”
“You keep showing everyone pieces of the truth.”
A pause.
“But you never show the entire story.”
She connected her laptop.
The screen changed.
A new video appeared.
The same meeting.
But from another angle.
The original recording.
The missing audio.
The part they removed.
Adrian’s voice appeared.
“If Richard signs, Charlotte loses everything.”
The room went silent.
Then another voice.
Evelyn.
“What about Richard?”
Adrian answered.
“He disappears.”
Everyone froze.
The video continued.
Adrian discussing the plan.
The fake documents.
The manipulation.
The lies.
The room became chaos.
Adrian’s face changed.
“No.”
Charlotte looked at him.
“You thought you destroyed every copy.”
She closed the laptop.
“You forgot one person.”
Adrian looked around.
“Who?”
Charlotte turned.
Victoria stepped forward.
Adrian’s expression collapsed.
“You?”
Victoria looked ashamed.
“I was never loyal to you.”
The woman who once humiliated Charlotte...
had become the person who exposed him.
But then the lights went out.
The entire tower went dark.
A second later...
every screen changed.
One image appeared.
A man standing in a dark room.
Older.
Powerful.
Cold.
Charlotte froze.
Because she knew him.
Richard Vale.
Her father.
Alive.
His voice filled the room.
“Charlotte.”
Everyone stared.
The message continued.
“You finally found the truth.”
A pause.
“But you still don’t know the biggest lie.”
Charlotte felt cold.
Richard continued:
“The man you are fighting…”
A pause.
“He is not the person who destroyed your family.”
The screen went black.
May you like
One final sentence appeared.
"The enemy you are searching for is someone you love."
