Chapter 7 - Teresa’s First Lie

The court hearing was scheduled two weeks later.
Before that happened, Daniel wanted to understand exactly how Teresa had built her story.
“We need to know what she will say before she says it,” he explained.
So we investigated.
And what we found shocked me.
Teresa had created an entire version of reality where she was the victim.
She told people Amy hated her.
She told relatives Amy was trying to separate me from my family.
She even claimed she had been paying our bills.
But the bank records proved the opposite.
The money came from me.
The expenses were never for us.
Daniel discovered something even more disturbing.
Teresa had been telling people that she owned part of my house.
“She told everyone you promised her ownership.”
I stared at him.
“Why would anyone believe that?”
“Because she repeated it for years.”
And suddenly I remembered.
Every family gathering.
Every holiday.
Every conversation.
Teresa would say things like:
“My son’s house.”
“My son’s success.”
“My son would be nothing without me.”
I used to think it was pride.
Now I understood.
She was slowly rewriting reality.
She wanted everyone to believe my achievements belonged to her.
Then Daniel found something from my childhood.
An old financial record.
My mother had taken out loans using my name when I was eighteen.
Small amounts.
But multiple times.
I looked at the documents.
“She used my identity?”
Daniel nodded.
“She may have been doing this longer than anyone realized.”
For the first time, I stopped seeing Teresa as a mother who made one terrible mistake.
May you like
I saw a pattern.
A lifetime of control.
