Chapter 6 - The Lawsuit That Changed Everything

Three days after we discovered Teresa’s plan, my life became a battlefield.

Not the kind I had imagined.

I had spent years working on construction sites, dealing with difficult contractors, impossible deadlines, and dangerous situations.

But nothing prepared me for fighting my own family.

Daniel filed the first legal actions.

The fake property transfer was officially reported.

The forged signature was sent for examination.

The financial records were frozen.

For the first time, Teresa could no longer move money without someone watching.

But my mother did not surrender.

She did exactly what Daniel predicted.

She attacked my reputation.

Within hours, relatives started calling.

My phone wouldn’t stop ringing.

My aunt Betsy was the first.

“Connor, how could you do this to your mother?”

I looked at the screen.

The same woman who had watched my wife struggle in the kitchen.

The same woman who told Amy she needed to “earn her place.”

“You know what she did?”

Betsy sighed.

“You’re only hearing one side.”

“One side?”

I laughed bitterly.

“My wife was taking care of a sick baby while your family ate a party she organized inside my house.”

“That’s not what happened.”

“Then tell me what happened.”

Silence.

Because there was no excuse.

After the call ended, another message arrived.

Then another.

Some relatives accused Amy of manipulating me.

Others claimed I had abandoned my mother.

It felt like my entire family had chosen a side.

But what hurt the most was realizing many of them had known.

They had seen Amy being treated like a servant.

And they said nothing.

That night, Amy found me sitting alone in my office.

“You’re questioning yourself.”

I looked at her.

“How do you know?”

“Because I know you.”

She sat beside me.

“You’re wondering if protecting us makes you a bad son.”

I didn’t answer.

Because she was right.

Amy took my hand.

“Connor, being someone’s child doesn’t mean you have to let them destroy your family.”

Those words stayed with me.

The next morning, Daniel called.

“Your mother hired an attorney.”

I expected that.

“What’s her strategy?”

A pause.

Then he answered.

“She’s claiming you were manipulated by your wife.”

My stomach tightened.

“She’s blaming Amy?”

“Yes.”

And that was when I realized.

Teresa wasn’t trying to win the case.

She was trying to destroy Amy.
