Chapter 3 - The Secret Inside the Mansion

The mansion changed overnight.

The guests left.

The rumors remained.

But the necklace was no longer the biggest mystery.

The question was simple.

Why would Vanessa risk everything over a document?

Daniel asked Emily to stay.

Not as an employee.

As someone who had been wronged.

She sat in the study.

A room she had cleaned hundreds of times.

But never entered as an equal.

Daniel placed the document on the desk.

“This is what she wanted.”

Emily looked at it.

“I found it while cleaning the library.”

“What does it say?”

Emily hesitated.

“I didn’t read everything.”

Daniel opened it.

His expression changed as he scanned the pages.

“What?”

He didn’t answer.

That scared her more.

Finally, he looked up.

“This belonged to my father.”

Emily frowned.

“Your father?”

Daniel nodded.

“My father kept records of everything.”

“About what?”

Daniel turned the page.

“Inheritance.”

Emily looked confused.

“Why would Vanessa care?”

Because the next page revealed something shocking.

A list of names.

A hidden trust.

And one name crossed out.

Vanessa Blackwood.

Daniel stared.

“She wasn’t supposed to inherit anything.”

Emily looked at him.

“Then why did she?”

Daniel’s expression became darker.

“Because someone changed the documents.”

The room went quiet.

Suddenly the necklace made sense.

Vanessa wasn’t trying to frame Emily because she hated her.

She was trying to destroy the person who found the evidence.

Emily swallowed.

“She thought I knew.”

“Yes.”

Daniel looked at the security footage again.

“She saw you with this document.”

Emily remembered.

Earlier that day.

She had found the file behind a bookshelf.

Vanessa had seen it.

She had watched Emily holding it.

And she had panicked.

Then Daniel noticed something else.

A signature.

A familiar signature.

Vanessa’s.

But beside it was another name.

A name Emily didn’t recognize.

“Who is that?”

Daniel stared.

His face became pale.

“I don’t know.”

Before they could continue…

the lights in the mansion suddenly went out.

The security system shut down.

The entire house fell into darkness.

Emily stood up.

“What happened?”

Daniel immediately moved toward the door.

“Stay here.”

A sound came from the hallway.

A slow movement.

Someone was inside.

Someone who should not have been there.

Then Daniel’s phone rang.

Unknown number.

He answered.

A distorted voice spoke.

“You found the file.”

Daniel froze.

“Who is this?”

The voice continued:

“You should have let the past stay buried.”

The call ended.

Emily looked at Daniel.

“What did they mean?”

Daniel looked toward the dark hallway.

May you like

And whispered:

“They know we found the truth.”
