Chapter 2 - The Woman Everyone Blamed

The silence inside the mansion felt heavier than shouting.

Emily stared at the necklace.

Her mind refused to accept what she was seeing.

That necklace was not supposed to be there.

She knew it.

But nobody else did.

Vanessa stepped closer.

“I trusted you.”

The words were almost insulting.

Because Emily knew.

Vanessa had never trusted her.

Not once.

“I didn’t take it.”

Her voice shook.

“I swear.”

Vanessa looked at the guests.

“Of course she says that.”

A few people exchanged uncomfortable looks.

Others looked away.

Nobody wanted to defend the housekeeper.

Not against Vanessa Blackwood.

Then Vanessa slapped her.

The sound echoed across the marble floor.

Emily stumbled backward.

Her hand immediately touched her cheek.

The shock hurt more than the pain.

Nobody moved.

Nobody stopped Vanessa.

Daniel’s expression changed.

“Vanessa.”

His voice was calm.

But something in it made the room quiet.

“That was unnecessary.”

Vanessa looked at him.

“She stole from me.”

Emily looked at Daniel.

For one second, she hoped.

Hoped he would believe her.

But Daniel didn’t say anything.

Not yet.

Then he walked toward the handbag.

“Everyone step back.”

Vanessa frowned.

“What are you doing?”

“Finding the truth.”

He looked at the necklace.

Then at Emily.

Then at Vanessa.

Something didn’t add up.

Daniel knew Emily.

For years, she had worked in his home.

She had returned lost money.

Protected family documents.

Stayed late when Vanessa was sick.

She was not careless.

And she was definitely not stupid enough to steal something worth millions and leave it inside her own bag.

“Where are the security recordings?”

Vanessa’s face changed slightly.

“The cameras?”

“Yes.”

“Daniel…”

“Bring them up.”

The guests became interested.

The mansion’s security system appeared on the large screen above the fireplace.

A technician accessed the footage.

Everyone waited.

The timestamp appeared.

The camera showed the foyer.

Emily carrying cleaning supplies.

Vanessa walking past.

Guests entering.

Everything seemed normal.

Until Daniel stopped the video.

“Zoom in.”

The technician adjusted the footage.

The camera angle changed.

A hallway camera.

Emily’s handbag sitting on a small table.

Untouched.

Then Vanessa appeared.

The room became silent.

Vanessa’s face changed.

Only slightly.

But Daniel noticed.

The footage continued.

Vanessa looked around.

No one nearby.

Then she reached into her purse.

The guests leaned closer.

A terrible realization began spreading.

She removed the necklace.

Emily covered her mouth.

“No…”

The video continued.

Vanessa opened Emily’s bag.

Placed the necklace inside.

Closed the zipper.

Then walked away.

The recording ended.

Nobody spoke.

The truth was impossible to deny.

Daniel slowly turned toward Vanessa.

“You planted it.”

Vanessa looked frozen.

“That’s not what it looks like.”

Daniel’s expression became cold.

“It is exactly what it looks like.”

The guests who had judged Emily moments earlier now looked at Vanessa.

The power had shifted.

Vanessa had lost control.

But Emily didn’t feel victorious.

She still stood there.

Her cheek burning.

Her hands shaking.

Because even though the truth was revealed…

the humiliation remained.

Daniel approached her.

“Emily.”

She looked away.

“I believe you.”

Those words should have comforted her.

But they came too late.

The damage had already happened.

Then Daniel noticed something.

Something on the security footage.

He replayed the moment Vanessa placed the necklace inside the bag.

“Stop.”

The screen froze.

“What?”

Daniel pointed.

“She didn’t do this because of the necklace.”

Everyone looked closer.

On the footage, Vanessa wasn’t looking at the handbag.

She was looking at something else.

A document sitting beside Emily’s belongings.

A document Emily had found earlier that day.

A document Vanessa desperately wanted hidden.

May you like

Daniel whispered:

“This was never about jewelry.”
