Chapter 14 - The Final Trap

The truth should have ended everything.

But it didn’t.

Because Vanessa was still free.

And she still had one move left.

The next morning, every news station reported a shocking story.

BLACKWOOD FAMILY SCANDAL DEEPENS AS NEW EVIDENCE EMERGES

The world was watching.

Vanessa’s reputation was collapsing.

But Emily knew something.

People like Vanessa did not surrender quietly.

She had spent decades surviving.

She would fight.

Daniel received a message.

A location.

No name.

No explanation.

Only one sentence:

Come if you want to know who started this.

Emily looked at him.

“You’re not going alone.”

Daniel nodded.

They arrived at an abandoned private estate.

The same place where Vanessa had stored old family records.

Inside, they found her.

Vanessa.

Standing beside a table covered with documents.

For once…

she looked tired.

Not powerful.

Not untouchable.

Just exhausted.

Daniel stared.

“Why?”

Vanessa looked at him.

“Because I wanted you to know the truth before they buried it again.”

Emily frowned.

“Who?”

Vanessa looked at her.

“The same person who convinced me I could survive.”

Daniel stepped forward.

“Richard?”

Vanessa shook her head.

“No.”

The answer shocked everyone.

“Then who?”

Vanessa slowly placed a document on the table.

A signed agreement.

Emily picked it up.

Her eyes widened.

The signature at the bottom belonged to…

Daniel’s father.

But the person who witnessed it was someone else.

Someone unexpected.

Margaret.

Daniel’s mother.

He stared.

“My mother?”

Vanessa nodded.

“She knew everything.”

Daniel looked devastated.

“No.”

“She knew your father was hiding the truth.”

Vanessa continued.

“She knew Evelyn existed.”

“She knew you were the missing heir.”

“And she helped erase it.”

The room became silent.

Daniel’s entire family had been built on secrets.

Emily looked at Vanessa.

“Then why frame me?”

Vanessa looked away.

“Because Margaret found the document before I did.”

Emily froze.

“What document?”

“The one proving she was involved.”

Vanessa explained.

She didn’t plant the necklace to protect herself.

She planted it because she needed to force the truth into the open.

Emily shook her head.

“You destroyed my reputation.”

Vanessa looked ashamed.

“I know.”

For the first time…

Vanessa sounded human.

“I thought losing your reputation for one night was better than losing your entire life.”

Emily stared at her.

“That doesn’t excuse what you did.”

Vanessa lowered her eyes.

“No.”

A pause.

“But it explains why.”

Then the lights inside the estate suddenly turned off.

Again.

A familiar pattern.

Someone was watching.

Someone else.

Daniel immediately grabbed his phone.

No signal.

Emily heard footsteps.

Not Vanessa.

Not Richard.

Someone new.

A voice came from the darkness.

“You finally found the truth.”

Everyone froze.

The voice continued.

“But you still don’t know the whole story.”

The lights turned back on.

May you like

And standing in the doorway…

was Margaret Blackwood.
