Chapter 11 - The Sin Buried Beneath the Mansion

The warehouse felt colder after Richard’s confession.

Daniel stared at him.

“My father?”

Richard nodded.

“You think Vanessa destroyed this family.”

He laughed softly.

“You’re wrong.”

Emily watched Daniel carefully.

His entire life was changing in front of him.

“My father was the victim.”

Richard’s expression hardened.

“He was the architect.”

Nobody spoke.

Richard opened another folder.

Inside were old company documents.

The original Blackwood business records.

“You all believed the story your father created.”

Daniel looked through the papers.

“What story?”

“That Vanessa was a greedy outsider who manipulated her way into wealth.”

Richard looked at Emily.

“But the truth is more complicated.”

He explained.

Years ago, Daniel’s father discovered that the Blackwood fortune had been built on illegal business deals.

Hidden accounts.

False contracts.

Manipulated inheritance records.

When Vanessa discovered the truth, she threatened to expose him.

So Daniel’s father made a deal.

He would give Vanessa a portion of the fortune.

In exchange…

she would stay silent.

Emily frowned.

“Then why erase Evelyn?”

Richard’s expression changed.

“Because Evelyn found out.”

The room went quiet.

The original heir.

The person who could expose everything.

Richard continued:

“Evelyn was supposed to inherit the family trust.”

“But when she discovered the illegal dealings, she threatened to report everyone.”

“So they removed her.”

Emily whispered:

“Removed?”

Richard looked away.

“They destroyed her reputation.”

“They made everyone believe she was unstable.”

“They forced her into hiding.”

Daniel’s hands tightened.

“And Vanessa?”

Richard smiled bitterly.

“Vanessa was useful.”

Emily finally understood.

Vanessa wasn’t the mastermind.

She was a weapon.

A person with ambition who was manipulated by someone more powerful.

But that did not erase what she had done.

She had still framed Emily.

Still humiliated her.

Still tried to destroy her.

Detective Miller found something in the documents.

“Daniel.”

Everyone looked.

He held a small paper.

“This signature.”

Daniel took it.

His face changed.

“It’s my father’s.”

The document was a confession.

A hidden letter.

Written before his death.

The final paragraph contained one sentence:

The person who knows the full truth is the one who stands closest to my family.

Everyone looked at Richard.

But Richard smiled.

“No.”

He pointed at Daniel.

“You’re looking at the wrong person.”

Daniel froze.

“What?”

Richard leaned closer.

“Your father wasn’t afraid of me.”

“Then who?”

Richard looked toward Emily.

“He was afraid of Vanessa.”

Emily frowned.

“Why?”

Richard answered:

“Because she had something your father desperately wanted hidden.”

“What?”

Richard pulled out a photograph.

A photograph of Vanessa.

Standing beside a child.

The same child from the old documents.

But this time…

there was a name written underneath.

Daniel Blackwood.

Emily’s breath stopped.

“What?”

Richard looked at Daniel.

“Your father lied about your birth.”

The room went silent.

Daniel stared.

“No.”

May you like

Richard whispered:

“You were never supposed to inherit anything.”
