CHAPTER 13 The First Raven Returns

The bunker went completely dark.
No lights.
No computers.
No alarms.
Only silence.
A silence so heavy that nobody dared move.
Then...
A single emergency lamp flickered on.
Illuminating the photograph on the screen.
An old man.
Standing beside Eleanor.
A man William had spent his entire life trying to forget.
William stared at the image.
His face had lost all color.
"No..."
Sophia looked at him.
"Who is he?"
William didn't answer.
His eyes remained fixed on the photograph.
Because the man in that picture wasn't just a stranger.
He was the beginning of everything.
Alexander stepped closer.
For the first time...
He looked afraid.
"That can't be possible."
Rebecca noticed.
"You know him too."
Alexander remained silent.
Rebecca raised her weapon.
"I said..."
"You know him."
Alexander slowly nodded.
"Yes."
A pause.
"Everyone in the Raven Circle knows him."
Ethan looked at the screen.
"The First Raven."
Daniel frowned.
"Who is he?"
William finally spoke.
His voice was barely audible.
"My father."
Everyone froze.
Sophia stared.
"Your father?"
William nodded.
"Charles Blackwood."
The name echoed through the chamber.
A name buried beneath decades of secrets.
A name that had never appeared in any official record.
Ethan looked at William.
"You told everyone he died."
William closed his eyes.
"Because he wanted the world to believe that."
A new message appeared on the screen.
ARCHIVE ACCESS: CHARLES BLACKWOOD
Files began opening.
Hundreds.
Thousands.
Financial records.
Government documents.
Scientific research.
Secret organizations.
Daniel scrolled through the information.
"This is impossible."
Rebecca looked at him.
"What?"
Daniel swallowed.
"This man wasn't just powerful."
"He controlled everything."
Ethan examined the files.
"He created the network."
Alexander nodded.
"The Raven Circle."
Sophia looked at him.
"But you said you created it."
Alexander looked away.
"I expanded it."
A pause.
"But Charles created the idea."
The speakers suddenly activated.
A voice filled the room.
Old.
Calm.
Commanding.
Everyone froze.
Because the voice sounded exactly like someone who had been waiting for decades.
"William."
William stepped backward.
"No..."
The voice continued.
"You disappoint me."
Sophia looked around.
"Is he here?"
Daniel checked the system.
"No signal."
The voice laughed softly.
"Still trying to find me."
A pause.
"You were always too focused on what was in front of you."
William walked toward the speaker.
"You died."
The voice answered:
"No."
"I evolved."
The screen changed.
A live camera appeared.
A hidden location.
A dark room.
And sitting there...
Was an elderly man.
White hair.
Sharp eyes.
A silver raven pin on his jacket.
Charles Blackwood.
Sophia whispered:
"He's alive."
William couldn't speak.
For the first time in years...
The powerful William Blackwood looked like a frightened child.
Charles looked directly into the camera.
"My son."
William's hands shook.
"You ruined everything."
Charles smiled.
"No."
"I built everything."
Ethan stepped forward.
"Why?"
Charles looked at him.
A strange smile appeared.
"So this is Ethan."
"The child who destroyed my perfect design."
Ethan's expression hardened.
"I was never your experiment."
Charles smiled.
"Everyone is an experiment."
Sophia stepped closer.
"You destroyed families."
"You hurt children."
"You took people's memories."
Charles looked at her.
"And yet..."
"You still came here searching for answers."
A pause.
"Humans always want truth."
"But they never understand the cost."
William's voice became angry.
"Where is Eleanor?"
For the first time...
Charles's expression changed.
Only slightly.
But everyone noticed.
"Your wife was brilliant."
William clenched his fists.
"Don't speak about her."
Charles continued.
"She was the only person who understood me."
Sophia stared.
"My mother hated what you became."
Charles smiled faintly.
"No."
"She hated that I was right."
Ethan looked at the files.
"The Eternal Memory project."
Charles nodded.
"Finally."
"Someone understands."
Daniel stepped forward.
"Project Atlas wasn't about control."
"It was about preserving consciousness."
Charles smiled.
"Exactly."
A pause.
"But Eleanor became weak."
"She developed emotions."
Sophia's eyes filled with anger.
"She developed humanity."
Charles looked at her.
"Humanity is the greatest flaw of mankind."
The bunker shook again.
This time harder.
Pieces of the ceiling collapsed.
Rebecca checked the cameras.
Her expression changed.
"Everyone..."
"What?"
She pointed at the screen.
"The Raven Circle isn't attacking."
Everyone looked.
Outside the bunker...
Hundreds of soldiers stood completely still.
Waiting.
Not attacking.
Not moving.
Alexander frowned.
"That's impossible."
Charles's voice came through.
"They aren't here to kill you."
"They are here to witness."
Ethan looked at the screen.
"Witness what?"
Charles smiled.
"The birth of the next generation."
A new file appeared.
ATLAS PHASE THREE
Sophia read the description.
Her face changed.
"No..."
William looked at her.
"What?"
Sophia whispered:
"Children."
The file contained names.
Hundreds of names.
Children recruited into Project Atlas.
But one name stood out.
A name everyone recognized.
SUBJECT E-008
STATUS: ACTIVE
Ethan stared.
"No."
Sophia looked at him.
"Ethan?"
His face became pale.
Because he knew that code.
He knew that subject.
"Who is E-008?"
William asked.
Ethan didn't answer.
His eyes filled with fear.
Finally...
He whispered:
"My sister."
Silence.
Lily grabbed Sophia's hand.
"What sister?"
Ethan looked toward the screen.
"Someone I thought died."
Charles smiled.
"Welcome back, Ethan."
"Your family is finally complete."
The screen changed one final time.
A young woman appeared.
Standing in a laboratory.
Alive.
Older.
Looking directly at the camera.
Then she spoke:
"Ethan..."
"I've been waiting for you."
Ethan froze.
Because that voice...
He remembered.
A voice from his childhood.
A voice he thought he would never hear again.
"Emma..."
The transmission ended.
The bunker went silent.
May you like
And somewhere deep beneath the earth...
Another door began to open.
