Chapter 2 - Code Pink

The silence lasted only three seconds.
But it felt like an eternity.
Then the hospital exploded into chaos.
A loud alarm echoed through the maternity wing.
Red lights flashed above the hallway.
Doctors and nurses rushed past the door.
Patients started asking questions.
Families looked around in confusion.
Then the announcement came.
“Code Pink. Possible infant abduction.”
My blood turned cold.
Possible infant abduction.
I looked at Luke.
He looked like he wanted to disappear.
Not because he was shocked.
Because he had been caught.
“Luke…”
My voice shook.
“Where is my baby?”
He didn’t answer.
That was the moment I knew.
Something was terribly wrong.
Camille immediately pressed the emergency button.
“Security needs to lock this floor.”
Luke stepped forward.
“This is a misunderstanding.”
Camille looked at him.
Her expression was no longer friendly.
“No father accidentally brings in a baby with a broken identification seal.”
The room became silent.
Eli slowly sat up.
His cheek was red.
His eyes were filled with tears.
But he looked at Luke differently now.
Not like a son looking at his father.
Like a witness looking at a criminal.
“I told you,” Eli whispered.
“I told everyone.”
Luke’s face darkened.
“Eli, stop.”
“No.”
The little boy shook his head.
“You took my sister.”
I wanted to believe it wasn’t true.
I wanted Luke to explain.
I wanted him to laugh and tell us this was some terrible mistake.
But then another woman appeared at the door.
She was wearing a hospital gown.
Her hair was messy.
Her face was covered in tears.
Behind her was an empty bassinet.
She looked at the baby.
Then she looked at me.
Her entire body froze.
“That…”
Her voice broke.
“That’s my baby.”
Nobody moved.
Camille walked toward her.
“Ma’am, what is your name?”
“Rachel Miller.”
She pointed at the newborn.
“My daughter was in this bassinet.”
Her hands trembled.
“I woke up and she was gone.”
The room became unbearable.
Two mothers.
One baby.
Two missing children.
And one man standing between them.
Luke.
Rachel looked at him.
Recognition appeared on her face.
“You…”
Luke stepped back.
“You don’t know me.”
Rachel’s eyes widened.
“Yes, I do.”
The air disappeared from my lungs.
“What?”
Rachel looked at me.
Then at Luke.
“He was here earlier.”
Camille turned sharply.
“Earlier?”
Rachel nodded.
“He came into my room.”
Luke’s face went completely white.
“He said he was hospital staff.”
My hands gripped the bedsheet.
“Luke?”
Rachel continued.
“He asked about my baby’s condition.”
Nobody spoke.
“He knew my daughter’s name.”
A terrifying realization hit me.
This wasn’t random.
Luke had planned this.
Security officers arrived seconds later.
Two guards blocked the doorway.
“No one leaves.”
Luke immediately became defensive.
“You can’t do this.”
The officer looked at the broken bracelet.
“Yes, we can.”
Then he looked directly at Luke.
“Sir, please step away from the bassinet.”
For the first time, my husband looked powerless.
But I still didn’t know the worst part.
Because Camille had found something else.
Something hidden beneath the baby’s blanket.
She carefully lifted the fabric.
A small hospital bracelet fell out.
Not the newborn’s bracelet.
Another one.
My bracelet.
The one from my daughter.
Camille looked at the name.
Then at me.
“Mia…”
Her voice became quiet.
“This was attached to another baby.”
May you like
My heart stopped.
“Where is my daughter?”
