The room became silent.
Nobody moved.
“What do you mean?”
Detective Harris stepped forward.
Victoria smiled.
“You think this was about hiding records.”
She shook her head.
“It was about controlling the truth.”
She looked at Luke.
“He was never the important piece.”
Luke frowned.
“Then who was?”
Victoria pointed at the files.
“The hospital.”
Camille looked confused.
“The hospital?”
“Yes.”
Victoria explained.
The fertility company had hidden hundreds of mistakes.
But there was one record they feared most.
A record proving that powerful people had known about the errors.
And ignored them.
“The babies were evidence.”
My heart sank.
“The children?”
Victoria nodded.
“Living proof.”
Detective Harris searched through the files.
Then he found it.

A list of names.
Executives.
Doctors.
Officials.
People who had approved the cover-up.
Luke stared.
“I never saw this.”
Victoria looked at him.
“Because you were never meant to.”
For years, Luke believed he was protecting himself.

Then the final file opened.
A video.
Six years old.
The recording began.
A hospital executive appeared on screen.
“We cannot allow these records to become public.”
Another voice answered.
“What about the children?”
The executive replied:
“They will grow up believing whatever story we give them.”
Everyone froze.
The room felt colder.
Because this was bigger than Luke.
Bigger than Victoria.

Then Amelia reached for my hand.

I looked at her.
