Chapter 7 - Buried Twice

Lucas confronted Harrison before sunrise.
“Did you know Mom was drugged?”
Harrison did not deny it.
He found Evelyn unconscious after Martin claimed she had taken pills during an emotional breakdown.
Instead of calling the police, Harrison panicked.
Evelyn’s investigation threatened the foundation, Sterling International, and Lucas.
Martin proposed a solution.
Stage an accident.
Harrison agreed.
Lucas could barely speak.
“You put her in that car?”
Harrison began to cry.
“Yes.”
The answer destroyed the last fragment of Lucas’s childhood memory.
“You buried her twice.”
Harrison looked up.
“What?”
“Once in the ground.”
Lucas stepped closer.
“And once under a lie.”
Harrison insisted he believed Evelyn was already dying.
He insisted he had been trying to protect Lucas.
But Lucas finally saw the truth.
His father had always called cowardice protection.
Silence loyalty.
Crime family duty.
“You weren’t saving me,” Lucas said.
“You were saving yourself.”
Then Nora entered holding Rose’s notebook.
She had found a new clue.
