Chapter 19 - Camille’s Apology

“I hated you before I knew who you were,” Camille said.

Nora remained silent.

Camille’s eyes filled with tears.

“Martin showed me your picture. He told me you were coming to destroy us.”

“So you decided to destroy me first.”

Camille looked down.

“Yes.”

She admitted she had recognized something familiar about Evelyn’s necklace.

That frightened her.

Instead of asking questions, she chose cruelty.

“I’m sorry.”

Nora studied her half-sister.

“I forgive the eleven-year-old girl who was terrified into silence.”

Camille looked up hopefully.

“And the woman with the riding crop?”

Nora’s expression did not change.

“She has to live with what she chose.”

It was not the forgiveness Camille wanted.

But it was honest.

Lucas later restructured the Sterling Foundation.

Independent auditors took control.

Victims were repaid.

Employees gained board representation.

Nora inherited Evelyn’s Sterling shares.

She sold most of the luxury assets and created the Rose and Evelyn Foundation to protect domestic workers and whistleblowers.

Then Lucas asked what should happen to Sterling Mansion.

Nora looked up at the chandelier.

The house had spent generations keeping ordinary people outside.

“Open the doors.”
