Harrison finally confessed.
Years before Evelyn died, he had used documents Lucas signed as a teenager to authorize fraudulent foundation transfers.
Lucas had been seventeen.
He thought he was signing school trust paperwork.
Instead, Harrison copied his signature onto financial approvals.
If investigators uncovered the scheme, Lucas could be made to look involved.
Evelyn discovered the fraud.
That was why Harrison told Camille her brother might go to prison.
Lucas stared at his father.
“You used me as insurance.”
“I protected you afterward.”
“You created the danger.”
Before Harrison could answer, security reported something worse.
Martin Blackwood was gone.
At 4:17 a.m., cameras showed him leaving Sterling Mansion with three archive boxes.
Minutes later, Nora’s phone vibrated.
Unknown number.
STOP DIGGING OR YOU’LL DIE LIKE ROSE.
Lucas read the message twice.
“Your mother died six months ago. How?”
Nora lowered her eyes.
“She fell down the stairs in her apartment.”
“Accident?”
“That’s what police said.”
Lucas looked toward Camille.
A riding crop.
A threatened maid.
A mother dead at the bottom of a staircase.
