Chapter 10 - The Man Who Never Died

Arthur Sterling was alive.
For twelve years, the family believed Harrison’s older brother had died overseas after years of estrangement.
Now investigators discovered his passport, private accounts, and recent travel.
Even Harrison seemed shaken.
Lucas demanded an explanation.
Harrison claimed Arthur had vanished after threatening to expose the family.
“Expose what?”
Harrison refused to answer.
Then Lucas received a private message.
If you want to know who really killed your mother, come alone.
Arthur.
They met in a deserted church outside the city.
Arthur appeared older, thinner, but unmistakably alive.
He blamed Harrison for everything.
Lucas did not believe him.
Then Arthur placed Evelyn’s original diary on the pew.
One page read:
Arthur wants control.
Martin wants money.
Harrison wants silence.
All three frighten me.
Lucas understood the conspiracy differently.
There had never been one mastermind.
Three powerful men wanted different things and protected the same corrupt system.
Arthur leaned closer.
“I can give you Martin.”
“In exchange for what?”
“Immunity.”
Lucas closed the diary.
“You don’t sound innocent.”
May you like
Arthur smiled.
“I never said I was.”
