Chapter 17 - The Last Witness

Police surrounded Cole before his plane could leave.
With nowhere left to run, he confessed.
Martin drugged Evelyn.
Arthur ordered Martin to recover the evidence she had collected.
Harrison arrived after Evelyn was already unconscious.
Instead of calling authorities, Harrison agreed to stage a crash.
Cole falsified the medical report.
Rose witnessed enough to understand what had happened.
Before fleeing Sterling Mansion, she took Evelyn’s necklace and several documents.
Martin searched for Rose for eighteen years.
Then, six months earlier, he finally found her.
Nora could barely ask the question.
“My mother’s fall?”
Cole looked down.
“Not an accident.”
Grant had followed Rose home.
He pushed her down the apartment stairs and searched the apartment afterward.
But Rose had already hidden the evidence.
Nora closed her eyes.
Rose was not her biological mother.
That no longer mattered.
Rose had raised her.
Protected her.
Carried Evelyn’s secret for eighteen years.
And died rather than surrender what Evelyn had entrusted to her.
Grant later confessed.
The last unanswered murder was solved.

But for Nora, justice did not feel like victory.
It felt like finally learning the true price two mothers had paid to keep her alive.
