Chapter 2 - The Secret Ricardo Buried

Nobody moved.
Nobody knew what to say.
The most powerful man in the room was suddenly the most powerless.
Ricardo stared at the three children.
His mind searched for an explanation.
Anything.
A misunderstanding.
A mistake.
A cruel coincidence.
But deep inside, he already knew.
He knew because he remembered.
He remembered the night Beatriz left.
The night he believed he had lost everything.
Years earlier, Ricardo and Beatriz had been young.
Before the money.
Before the companies.
Before the reputation.
They were simply two people who believed love could survive anything.
Beatriz had supported him when nobody else believed in him.
She had stayed awake during his first business failures.
She had sold her jewelry to help him pay debts.
She had believed in his dreams before the world recognized his name.
Then came the tragedy.
The doctors told them they might never have children.
Ricardo remembered the pain.
The fear.
The disappointment.
But he also remembered something else.
The pressure.
His family had always wanted an heir.
His father constantly reminded him that the Valente name needed to continue.
And slowly, Ricardo began changing.
He became distant.
Cold.
Afraid.
Instead of protecting Beatriz, he allowed others to make her feel broken.
The rumors started.
People whispered that she had failed.
That she had ruined Ricardo’s future.
And Ricardo did something he regretted every day.
He believed them.
One night, after a terrible argument, Beatriz packed her bags.
She stood at the door with tears in her eyes.
“I needed you to fight for me,” she said.
Ricardo remembered staying silent.
That silence destroyed everything.
He let her leave.
And he never searched hard enough.
Years passed.
He convinced himself she had moved on.
He convinced himself he had made the right choice.
Until tonight.
Until three children walked into his wedding.
Beatriz looked around the room.
“Ricardo told everyone I could never give him a family.”
Her voice remained steady.
“But he never told them the truth.”
The guests listened.
“The doctors were wrong.”
A shocked murmur filled the ballroom.
Beatriz continued.
“I found out I was pregnant after I left.”
Ricardo closed his eyes.
Pain crossed his face.
“You knew?” he whispered.
Beatriz looked at him.
“Yes.”
The answer destroyed him.
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
A painful smile appeared on her face.
“Because when I needed you the most, you chose to believe everyone except me.”
Ricardo had no response.
Because she was right.
Juliana stepped forward.
“This is impossible.”
Everyone looked at her.
“These children could be anyone’s.”
Beatriz calmly reached into her bag.
She removed a folder.
Inside were documents.
Medical records.
Birth certificates.
DNA test results.
She handed them to Ricardo.
“Everything you refused to know.”
His hands shook as he opened the folder.
The first page.
The names.
The dates.
The evidence.
Everything was real.
The oldest child stepped forward.
“Are you really my father?”
That question hurt Ricardo more than anything else.
Because it was not anger.
It was hope.
A child who had waited years for an answer.
Ricardo fell to his knees.
Tears filled his eyes.
“I didn’t know.”
The boy looked at him.
“But you could have known.”
Those words were worse than any accusation.
The entire room watched as Ricardo faced the consequences of the secret he buried.
And standing beside him was Juliana.
The woman who had planned a perfect wedding.
Only to discover that the past she wanted to destroy was the truth she could never escape.
Because Beatriz had not returned for revenge.
She had returned because her children deserved to know their father.

And because Ricardo finally had to face the one thing he feared most:
The truth.
