Chapter 15 - Ricardo’s Lowest Point

For the first time in his life, Ricardo Valente had nothing to hide behind.

Not his company.

Not his wealth.

Not his reputation.

Not his name.

The world knew everything.

The failed marriage.

The hidden children.

The manipulation.

The betrayal.

Every mistake he had spent years avoiding was now visible.

And strangely, the hardest part was not losing public respect.

It was looking at his children and knowing he had missed the years he could never recover.

Ricardo sat alone in his empty office.

The same place where he had celebrated billion-dollar deals.

The same place where employees once waited for his approval.

Now there was only silence.

On his desk were three photographs.

Mateo.

Sofia.

Clara.

Three children who had grown up without him.

He picked up the first photo.

Mateo’s first day of school.

He picked up the second.

Sofia’s birthday.

The third.

Clara holding a drawing.

Small moments.

Ordinary moments.

The moments that mattered most.

And he had missed them all.

His phone rang.

It was his lawyer.

“Mr. Valente, the board wants a meeting.”

Ricardo sighed.

“About the company?”

“Yes.”

“What do they want?”

“They believe the scandal has damaged investor confidence.”

Ricardo looked around his office.

For years, this company had been his entire identity.

But now the question felt different.

“What happens if I lose control?”

A pause.

“You could lose your position.”

Ricardo closed his eyes.

“I understand.”

The board meeting was tense.

Executives who once admired Ricardo now questioned him.

“You allowed personal problems to affect the company.”

“You failed to protect the Valente reputation.”

“You should have handled this privately.”

Ricardo listened.

Then one executive said something that changed the room.

“Your father would never have allowed this.”

Silence.

Ricardo looked up.

For years, those words would have controlled him.

Not anymore.

“My father is exactly why this happened.”

The executives looked surprised.

“He built this company on control and secrets.”

Ricardo stood.

“I will not continue that legacy.”

A board member frowned.

“Then what do you intend to do?”

Ricardo answered calmly.

“Tell the truth.”

Later that day, Ricardo made a decision nobody expected.

He stepped away from his position as CEO.

The announcement shocked the business world.

But Ricardo did not regret it.

Because for the first time, he was choosing something more important than power.

His family.

Meanwhile, Beatriz watched the news.

She expected to feel satisfaction.

She expected happiness.

But she felt something else.

Sadness.

Because she knew Ricardo was suffering.

And despite everything…

A part of her still cared.

Her children noticed.

“Mom?”

She turned.

Mateo stood there.

“Are you sad?”

She smiled gently.

“Sometimes people can hurt you and you can still care about them.”

Mateo thought about that.

“Do you still love Dad?”

Beatriz was silent.

The honest answer was complicated.

“I loved the man he was.”

A pause.

“And I hope he becomes the man he should have been.”

That evening, Ricardo visited the children.

No cameras.

No reporters.

No public announcement.

Just him.

Mateo opened the door.

“You quit your job.”

Ricardo smiled.

“Yes.”

“Why?”

“Because I realized I was chasing things that couldn’t love me back.”

The boy looked at him carefully.

“And us?”

Ricardo looked emotional.

“You are the things I should have protected from the beginning.”

For the first time, Mateo hugged him.

It lasted only a few seconds.

But to Ricardo, it meant everything.

However, the peace did not last.

The next morning, Ricardo received a message.

A photograph.

It showed a document.

A document from the hospital.

The sender was unknown.

The message contained only four words:

“You still don’t know.”

Ricardo opened the image.

And his heart stopped.

Because the document revealed something about Clara’s birth.

May you like

Something nobody had told him.

Something that could change his relationship with Beatriz forever.
