Chapter 11 - Juliana’s Final Move

Beatriz stood frozen in the doorway.
For several seconds, she could not understand the words she had just heard.
“Ricardo made a choice?”
Juliana looked away.
The confidence she once carried was gone.
For the first time, Beatriz saw something different in her.
Not arrogance.
Not cruelty.
Fear.
“What choice are you talking about?”
Juliana took a deep breath.
“The night you left…”
Her voice trembled.
“Ricardo knew you were going to leave.”
Beatriz stared at her.
“No.”
“He knew.”
“That’s impossible.”
Juliana shook her head.
“He was angry. He was hurt. He thought you were giving up on him.”
Beatriz felt her heart tighten.
Because she remembered that night.
She remembered standing by the door.
Waiting.
Hoping.
Praying he would stop her.
“I waited for him to say something.”
Juliana looked at her.
“He didn’t because he thought you had already made your decision.”
The words were painful.
Not because they were new.
But because they explained the silence that had haunted her for years.
“He could have stopped me.”
“Yes.”
“But he didn’t.”
Juliana nodded.
“No.”
A painful silence filled the room.
Beatriz stepped back.
“So after everything… after your lies, after your family’s manipulation…”
Her voice became colder.
“You are telling me Ricardo was also responsible?”
Juliana lowered her eyes.
“Yes.”
The next morning, Beatriz refused to speak to Ricardo.
Not because she hated him.
Because she needed time.
For years, she had built a version of the past in her mind.
A story where Ricardo was only a victim.
A good man who had been controlled by powerful people.
But now another possibility existed.
Maybe he had been weak.
Maybe he had chosen comfort over courage.
And that hurt.
Because weakness could destroy a person just as easily as cruelty.
Ricardo arrived at Beatriz’s house.
She did not let him inside.
“We need to talk.”
“No.”
His expression changed.
“Beatriz.”
“No, Ricardo.”
She looked directly at him.
“For years, I believed you were just a man who was lied to.”
A pause.
“But maybe you were also a man who chose not to know.”
Ricardo felt the accusation hit him.
Because he knew there was truth in it.
“I was confused.”
“You were silent.”
“I was hurt.”
“So was I.”
He had no answer.
Because every excuse sounded smaller when spoken aloud.
“I loved you.”
Beatriz shook her head.
“Love is not only a feeling.”
Her eyes filled with emotion.
“It is a choice.”
Silence.
“And when I needed you to choose me…”
She stepped back.
“You didn’t.”
Meanwhile, Juliana was preparing her final move.
She knew Ricardo had turned against her.
She knew the public believed Beatriz.
But she still had one advantage.
A secret nobody else knew.
She met Adrian in a private restaurant.
“We need to stop him.”
Adrian looked nervous.
“He already exposed us.”
“Not everything.”
She placed a document on the table.
Adrian looked at it.
His expression changed.
“You kept this?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
Juliana smiled sadly.
“Because I always knew I might need protection.”
The document was a legal agreement.
A hidden contract.
One that showed Ricardo’s father had planned everything years ago.
But there was something else.
Something that connected Ricardo directly.
“If this becomes public,” Adrian said, “Ricardo loses everything.”
Juliana looked down.
“I know.”
“And you’re willing to do that?”
Her eyes hardened.
“He chose her.”
Adrian stared at her.
“You still love him.”
Juliana said nothing.
Because the truth was complicated.
She loved him.
But she also loved the life she built around him.
And she was not willing to lose both.
That evening, Ricardo received a message.
A photo.
No explanation.
Just an image.
A document.
And one sentence:
“Ask yourself why your father kept this hidden.”
Ricardo opened the attachment.
His face changed.
Because the document showed something impossible.
A signature.
His signature.
From seven years earlier.
May you like
A decision he did not remember making.
A decision that could change everything.
