CHAPTER 15 — THE DELIVERY ROOM FOOTAGE

The video sat on my phone screen.

A file that should never have existed.

A file that someone had hidden.

A file that could finally explain the night my entire life changed.

Nobody spoke.

Even Daniel looked afraid to breathe.

Rachel stared at the attachment.

“Who sent this?”

I shook my head.

“Unknown number.”

My father stepped closer.

“Open it.”

I looked at him.

The fear in his eyes was different.

Not the fear of being exposed.

The fear of remembering something painful.

I pressed play.

The screen went black.

Then a timestamp appeared.

The date.

The exact night Lily was born.

My hands started shaking.

The video loaded.

A hospital hallway appeared.

The quality was not perfect.

It was clearly from a security camera.

A nurse walked past.

A doctor entered a room.

Then the camera angle changed.

A few seconds later…

I saw myself.

Being pushed toward the delivery room.

My face was exhausted.

My hair was messy.

My hand was gripping the hospital bed.

Daniel was beside me.

Holding my hand.

For a moment, my heart softened.

Because that was the memory I had kept.

The one beautiful moment I believed was real.

Then the video continued.

A nurse spoke to Daniel.

The audio was unclear.

But Daniel’s expression changed.

He looked worried.

The nurse pointed toward the hallway.

Daniel looked back at me.

Then he walked away.

I froze.

Because I remembered that night differently.

I remembered him saying he would never leave.

But the footage showed the truth.

He left.

The video continued.

Daniel entered another hallway.

A few minutes later…

Chloe appeared.

Everyone became silent.

Daniel closed his eyes.

Because seeing it was different from remembering it.

The two of them stood together.

Talking.

Arguing.

Then Chloe handed him something.

A folder.

The same folder.

The one from the previous footage.

Rachel leaned closer.

“Pause.”

I stopped the video.

“What?”

She pointed at the screen.

“Zoom in.”

The image became clearer.

The folder had a logo.

A logo I recognized.

Not from Chloe.

Not from the hospital.

From Daniel’s company.

My stomach tightened.

“Why would company documents be involved?”

Nobody answered.

I continued playing.

Daniel opened the folder.

He looked through the papers.

Then Chloe said something.

The audio was weak.

Rachel increased the volume.

Static filled the room.

Then a sentence became clear.

“You need to decide before she gives birth.”

My entire body went cold.

Before she gives birth.

Me.

They were talking about me.

Daniel looked at Chloe.

Then said something.

The audio became clearer.

“I can’t leave her now.”

Chloe responded.

“You can if you believe the truth.”

Silence.

Daniel looked down.

Then Chloe handed him another document.

A single page.

The fake DNA report.

My fingers tightened around the phone.

The video continued.

Daniel read it.

His face changed.

Fear.

Shock.

Confusion.

Then Chloe touched his arm.

And said something that made everyone freeze.

“She will forgive you if you do the right thing.”

I stopped breathing.

Because that sentence revealed everything.

Chloe wasn’t comforting him.

She was guiding him.

Manipulating him.

She wanted him to make a choice.

A choice that benefited her.

The video continued.

Daniel walked away.

But before he returned to my room…

Someone else entered the hallway.

A man.

Tall.

Wearing a dark jacket.

I immediately recognized him.

Mark Ellis.

Daniel’s business partner.

My father whispered:

“There.”

The room became silent.

Mark approached Chloe.

They spoke.

The audio was too low.

Rachel adjusted it.

Then we heard it.

“You did well.”

Chloe smiled.

“I told you he would believe it.”

My heart dropped.

Daniel covered his mouth.

“No…”

The video continued.

Mark handed Chloe an envelope.

Then said:

“Once Daniel signs the transfer, everything belongs to us.”

Nobody moved.

Rachel immediately grabbed the phone.

“Stop.”

The video froze.

Daniel looked destroyed.

“Transfer?”

Rachel looked at him.

“What transfer?”

He didn’t answer.

Because suddenly he understood.

The DNA report.

The affair.

The doubt.

The chaos.

Everything had been designed to weaken him.

To make him desperate.

To make him sign something.

My father looked at Daniel.

“What did you sign?”

Daniel looked pale.

“I…”

He stopped.

I stared at him.

“You signed something?”

He closed his eyes.

“Before Lily was born…”

My chest tightened.

“What?”

Daniel looked at me.

“Mark told me the company was in danger.”

“He said I needed temporary protection.”

Rachel’s expression changed.

“Protection from what?”

Daniel whispered:

“From losing my shares.”

I felt sick.

“So he convinced you to sign documents.”

Daniel nodded.

“I thought it was a safety agreement.”

Rachel looked furious.

“It was probably an ownership transfer.”

Daniel looked at her.

“No.”

“Yes.”

She held up the documents from earlier.

“Your inheritance clause.”

Daniel stared at them.

“If you were removed as Lily’s father…”

She paused.

“The agreement would activate.”

The room became silent.

Because the plan was finally visible.

Mark didn’t need to destroy Daniel completely.

He only needed Daniel to believe he was losing everything.

His family.

His marriage.

His child.

Then he could make Daniel sign away his power.

And Chloe had been the perfect distraction.

I looked at Daniel.

“And you never told me.”

He looked ashamed.

“No.”

“Why?”

“Because I thought I could fix it.”

I nodded slowly.

“Just like everything else.”

He looked hurt.

But he couldn’t deny it.

Then the video continued.

Rachel had not stopped it completely.

A final scene appeared.

The hospital room.

My room.

The night Lily was born.

Daniel walked back inside.

I was lying there.

Holding our newborn daughter.

Smiling.

The happiest moment of my life.

Daniel stood at the door.

Watching us.

Then his phone rang.

He looked down.

A message appeared.

From Mark.

Only one sentence.

“Remember your agreement. If she finds out, we lose everything.”

Daniel saw the message.

Then looked at me.

At Lily.

And instead of telling me…

He put the phone away.

The video ended.

Nobody spoke.

I felt numb.

Because the truth was finally complete.

Daniel had been manipulated.

But he had also chosen silence.

He had chosen to hide.

He had chosen to let me live inside a lie.

I looked at him.

“You had a chance.”

His eyes filled with tears.

“I know.”

“No.”

I shook my head.

“You had a thousand chances.”

The words broke him.

Because they were true.

Rachel collected the documents.

“We need to act quickly.”

Daniel looked confused.

“Why?”

She looked at the video.

“Because if Mark knows this footage exists…”

She paused.

“He will know we know the truth.”

My phone suddenly vibrated.

Another message.

Everyone looked.

I opened it.

This time, there was no text.

Only a photo.

A photo of Lily.

Taken that same day.

Inside the hotel.

While we were at the baptism party.

My blood ran cold.

Someone had been watching us.

Someone had been close.

Then a message appeared beneath the picture.

“You found the past. Now try surviving the future.”

I looked around the room.

And for the first time…

I realized this was no longer about exposing a betrayal.

May you like

This was a fight.

And someone was willing to do anything to win.
