Chapter 6 - Naomi's Warning
Naomi refused to let Christopher carry the original documents home.
“They go into independent custody.”
“Agreed.”
“And we create digital copies.”
“Agreed.”
“And you stop telling Alexander everything.”
Christopher looked at her.
“He helped me.”
“He also works for your mother.”
“He is my brother.”
Naomi's expression did not change.
“That is not the same thing.”
Christopher hated that she was right.
The next morning, Naomi introduced him to Daniel Ruiz, a former federal financial investigator.
Daniel studied the shell-company records.
“These aren't random transfers.”
“What are they?”
“A system.”
He showed Christopher twelve entities.
Different names.
Different states.
Different industries.
All connected through nominee directors.
“This took years.”
“Can you prove Estelle controlled them?”
“Maybe.”
Christopher disliked that word.
Daniel pointed to the dates.
“Look.”
Several transfers occurred immediately after Rachel's internal audit reports.
Then payments went to a private security firm.
One of those payments was made forty-eight hours before Rachel died.
Christopher's blood went cold.
Daniel raised a hand.
“That does not prove murder.”
“I know.”
“It proves someone connected to the shell network paid a security company shortly before her death.”
“Find out who.”
Daniel nodded.
“I will.”
Christopher looked at Naomi.
“What about Juliette?”
Naomi handed him a report.
Juliette had received money from one of the same shell entities.
Not once.
Seven times.
Total amount:
$460,000.
Christopher stared at the number.
“For what?”
“No legitimate service identified.”
His stomach turned.
Juliette had shared his home.
Shared his bed.
Helped choose Emma's birthday presents.
