Chapter 16 - The Old Clue

The answer came from the photograph.

Emma noticed it.

Not Christopher.

On the back, beneath the date, Rachel had written:

Blue room.

Christopher had assumed 317 referred only to the archive unit.

Emma pointed to the photograph.

“What's that blue sign?”

Behind Rachel and Thomas stood an old shipping terminal sign.

PIERCE TERMINAL 3 – BAY 17.

Christopher called Daniel.

The abandoned terminal still existed.

Inside Bay 17 was a sealed records room painted blue.

Thomas had created two hiding places.

The archive was meant to be found first.

The blue room was the backup.

Inside were duplicate notarized trust documents.

Original ledgers.

And a videotaped statement from Thomas Pierce.

Christopher pressed play.

His father's face appeared.

“If you are seeing this, I was not brave enough soon enough.”

Thomas identified the trust amendment.

Confirmed Emma's rights.

Described Estelle's financial scheme.

And admitted his own role in concealing Christopher's daughter.

Then he said:

“My wife believes this family survives through control.”

“She is wrong.”

“A family survives only if the next generation refuses to inherit its worst sins.”

Christopher sat in silence after the video ended.

Naomi looked at him.

“Now we have her.”
