Friday morning, everything appeared finished.
The trustee accepted Thomas's authenticated amendment.
Emma's shares were recognized.
Estelle resigned from the board.
Alexander agreed to cooperate with investigators.
Juliette entered plea negotiations.
Christopher thought it was over.
Then Daniel called.
“Estelle moved the money.”
Christopher froze.
“What money?”
“One hundred and twelve million dollars.”
“When?”
“Forty minutes ago.”
“Where?”
“A foreign holding company.”
Naomi looked at the clock.
4:52 p.m.
Eight minutes before international clearing cutoff.
Christopher understood.
Estelle had surrendered publicly while stealing privately.
She had never planned to win the hearing.
She planned to escape with what remained.
Daniel was already moving.
Emergency freeze orders were filed.
At 4:58, the transfer hit intermediary review.
At 4:59, it stopped.
Two minutes later, Estelle called Christopher.
Her voice was colder than he had ever heard it.
“You think you won.”
Christopher looked at Emma through the apartment window.
“No.”
