Chapter 14 - Alexander's Second Betrayal
Christopher believed Alexander had finally chosen him.
He was wrong.
The night before the hearing, the independent document vault was accessed.
One original trust file disappeared.
Security logs showed Alexander's credentials.
Christopher drove to his brother's apartment.
Alexander opened the door looking destroyed.
“You took it.”
Alexander said nothing.
Christopher pushed past him.
“Where is it?”
“Chris—”
“Where?”
Alexander sat down.
“Mother promised to clear everything.”
Christopher stared.
“My debts.”
His brother's voice cracked.
“She said if I gave her the amendment, she would make everything disappear.”
“And you believed her?”
“I didn't know what else to do.”
Christopher felt sick.
“You had me.”
Alexander looked up.
“And I was ashamed.”
“You had Naomi.”
“I was ashamed.”
“You had a choice.”
Alexander's eyes filled with tears.
“I know.”
Christopher stepped toward the door.
Behind him, Alexander whispered:
“She burned it.”
