Chapter 9 - The Blue Ledger

The Orchid archive was beneath the basement.

Behind a brick wall.

My grandfather had used it before Solmere records became digital.

Daniel, Samuel, and I entered shortly after midnight.

Hundreds of boxes filled metal shelves.

The brass key opened a steel cabinet.

Inside was a blue leather ledger.

My mother had documented everything.

Transfers.

Shell companies.

Board votes.

Private payments.

Marcus and Adrian had diverted more than $214 million over seven years.

But the final pages concerned something larger.

Solmere itself.

They planned to push the company toward a manufactured liquidity crisis.

Then Harrington-controlled investment funds would purchase distressed debt.

Once Solmere defaulted, Marcus could take control through restructuring.

My inheritance would become almost worthless.

Samuel turned another page.

There was a draft timeline.

At the top:

PROJECT WINTER – FINAL CONTROL DATE

The date was three weeks away.

They were still doing it.

My return had not stopped their plan.

It had accelerated it.
