Chapter 18: The Secret of the Marquez Bloodline

Marcus Thorne had spent weeks searching for the enemy.

He looked inside the Thorne empire.

He looked at the board members.

The executives.

The family.

The people who carried his last name.

He believed the betrayal came from the place where he was born.

But the document in front of him changed everything.

Because the name written inside Richard Marquez’s hidden files was not a Thorne.

It was a Marquez.

Someone connected to Khloe.

Someone from her own bloodline.

Someone who had been standing in the shadows since the beginning.

Marcus stared at the page.

His fingers tightened.

Gabriel Marquez.

The name meant nothing to him.

But according to the documents...

it meant everything.

When Marcus arrived at the hospital, Khloe immediately knew something had happened.

She had learned to read him.

The smallest changes.

The way he walked.

The way he avoided eye contact.

The way he held information inside until it became unbearable.

"Who is Gabriel Marquez?"

The question made her freeze.

She looked at him.

"How do you know that name?"

Marcus placed the documents on the table.

"Because your father investigated him."

Khloe slowly picked up the papers.

Her eyes moved across the pages.

Then stopped.

"No."

Marcus watched her carefully.

"You know him."

Khloe shook her head.

"I don't."

But her voice lacked certainty.

Marcus noticed.

"What aren't you telling me?"

Khloe looked away.

For several seconds, she said nothing.

Then:

"When I was a child..."

She swallowed.

"My mother mentioned that name once."

Marcus leaned closer.

"What did she say?"

Khloe closed her eyes.

"She said some people don't need to hurt you themselves."

A pause.

"They can convince someone else to do it for them."

Elena entered the room moments later.

The second she saw the documents, her face changed.

Not confusion.

Recognition.

Marcus noticed immediately.

"You know him."

Elena remained silent.

"Elena."

She looked at Khloe.

Then at Marcus.

Finally, she nodded.

"Yes."

Khloe stared.

"Who is he?"

Elena sat down slowly.

"Your uncle."

The room became silent.

Gabriel Marquez.

Richard's older brother.

A man once considered the genius of the Marquez family.

Unlike Richard, who believed in exposing corruption, Gabriel believed power was the only language the world understood.

He admired Alexander Thorne.

He studied him.

He wanted to become him.

And when Richard discovered the truth about the Thorne empire, Gabriel saw an opportunity.

Not a crime.

An opportunity.

"If Richard exposed Alexander," Elena said quietly, "everything would collapse."

Marcus listened.

"And Gabriel?"

"He believed he could take advantage of the chaos."

Khloe looked confused.

"Take advantage?"

Elena nodded.

"He wanted control."

Thirty-five years earlier.

Gabriel discovered Richard's investigation.

He discovered Elena was pregnant.

He discovered the existence of Khloe.

And he realized something.

The Marquez family had something Alexander wanted.

A legitimate claim.

A chance to challenge the Thorne empire.

But Gabriel didn't want justice.

He wanted the empire himself.

So he made a deal.

Not with Alexander.

With the people behind Alexander.

He would help bury the truth.

And in exchange...

he would receive power when the empire changed hands.

Marcus looked at Elena.

"Did Richard know?"

Her eyes filled with sadness.

"Yes."

"That's why he was afraid."

A pause.

"Richard wasn't only running from Alexander."

She looked at Khloe.

"He was running from his own brother."

Khloe sat silently.

Her entire life had been a mystery.

Now every answer created another wound.

Meanwhile, Adrian discovered the truth about Victor.

Not from Marcus.

Not from Thomas.

From Victor himself.

They met in an abandoned building outside the city.

Adrian stood across from the man who had shaped his entire life.

"You knew Gabriel."

Victor didn't respond.

That was enough.

Adrian's expression hardened.

"You worked with him."

Victor sighed.

"You are finally seeing the whole picture."

Adrian stepped forward.

"Did you find me because of him?"

A pause.

"Yes."

The answer hurt more than Adrian expected.

"Why?"

Victor looked at him.

"Because Gabriel needed someone who could claim the Marquez legacy."

Adrian froze.

"What?"

"You were the missing son."

Silence.

Victor continued.

"You were the perfect symbol."

Adrian shook his head.

"No."

"Yes."

"You used me."

Victor looked away.

"I gave you what you wanted."

"What?"

"A reason."

Adrian's voice became quiet.

"No."

He looked at him.

"You gave me a target."

At Thorne Tower, Marcus, Thomas, and Daniel reviewed everything.

The pieces finally started connecting.

Gabriel.

Victor.

Margaret.

Alexander.

Everyone had been moving pieces.

Everyone had their own reason.

But one question remained.

Who killed Richard?

The answer came from Thomas.

"I know."

Everyone looked at him.

Thomas took a deep breath.

"I found him after the attack."

Marcus stared.

"You never told me."

"Because I was too late."

"What happened?"

Thomas looked down.

"Richard was alive."

Silence.

"He survived."

Khloe covered her mouth.

"Then..."

Thomas nodded.

"He gave me the evidence."

Marcus leaned forward.

"Who killed him?"

Thomas looked at him.

"Gabriel."

The room went silent.

But then Thomas said something unexpected.

"Gabriel didn't act alone."

Marcus frowned.

"Who helped him?"

Thomas hesitated.

Everyone waited.

Finally, he answered.

"Someone from the Thorne family."

Marcus felt cold.

"Who?"

Thomas looked at Margaret's name on the documents.

Then shook his head.

"Not Margaret."

Everyone froze.

"Then who?"

Thomas whispered:

"The person who benefited most from the war between our families."

At that moment, the hospital security system went offline.

Again.

Marcus immediately stood.

"Not again."

Daniel checked his phone.

"We lost cameras."

Marcus looked toward Khloe.

"Stay here."

"No."

Her voice surprised him.

Marcus turned.

Khloe stood.

"I am tired of everyone deciding what happens to me."

A pause.

"I am done hiding."

Marcus looked at her.

For a moment, he saw the same strength that had always been there.

The strength everyone underestimated.

"Okay."

He nodded.

"Then we face it together."

The lights returned.

But something had changed.

A message appeared on every screen in the building.

One sentence.

THE TRUTH YOU ARE LOOKING FOR IS IN THE THORNE BLOODLINE.

Marcus stared.

Then another line appeared.

ASK WHO INHERITED ALEXANDER'S PRIVATE ACCOUNT.

Thomas went pale.

Because he knew that account.

The account nobody had been able to access.

The account Alexander created before his death.

The account that controlled everything.

The money.

The secrets.

The evidence.

And the person who inherited it...

was not Margaret.

Not Marcus.

Not Khloe.

The name appeared on the screen.

Everyone froze.

Because the final piece of the puzzle had been revealed.

The person controlling the war from the shadows...

was someone they never suspected.

Someone who had been helping Marcus.

Someone who had been standing beside him from the beginning.

The name appeared:

DANIEL THORNE.

Marcus slowly turned.

His uncle stood frozen.

For the first time in decades...

Daniel had no explanation.

No defense.

No answer.

And Marcus realized the cruelest truth of all.

May you like

The person who helped him uncover every lie...

might have been the person who created them.
