Chapter 14: The Son Thomas Hid

Marcus Thorne had learned to accept impossible things.
A hidden inheritance.
A mother who disappeared.
A father who was alive.
A family empire built on stolen secrets.
But there was one thing he still could not accept.
The photograph.
Adrian standing beside Thomas.
The image sat on Marcus's phone screen.
A simple picture.
A simple moment.
Yet it carried the weight of a betrayal.
Because Thomas had looked Marcus in the eyes and told him he had spent twenty years hiding to protect the truth.
He never mentioned Adrian.
He never mentioned that they had met.
He never mentioned that the missing son of Elena Marquez had been standing beside him.
Waiting.
Watching.
Preparing.
And Marcus hated one thing more than betrayal.
Being the last person to know.
The abandoned warehouse was empty when Marcus arrived.
The same place where Thomas had revealed Adrian's existence.
But this time, Marcus wasn't coming for answers.
He was coming for the truth.
Thomas appeared from the shadows.
The moment he saw Marcus's face, he knew.
"You know."
Marcus didn't answer.
He simply held up the photograph.
Thomas looked at it.
And closed his eyes.
"Where did you get this?"
Marcus's voice was cold.
"That doesn't matter."
Thomas looked at him.
"Marcus."
"No."
His son stepped closer.
"You don't get to do this anymore."
Thomas remained silent.
"You disappeared."
A pause.
"You let me believe you were dead."
Another pause.
"You let me hate you."
Marcus's voice cracked slightly.
"And then you came back and told me everyone was lying."
Thomas looked down.
"Because they were."
"Except you?"
The question hit harder.
Thomas didn't respond.
And Marcus saw the answer.
"You knew Adrian was alive."
Thomas finally spoke.
"Yes."
The word was quiet.
But it changed everything.
Marcus stared at him.
"For how long?"
"Since the night he disappeared."
"Then why didn't you tell me?"
Thomas looked away.
"Because I couldn't."
Marcus laughed bitterly.
"You couldn't?"
"You don't understand."
"Then explain."
Thomas took a deep breath.
"Adrian was not just a missing child."
Marcus waited.
"He was a weapon."
Silence.
"What does that mean?"
Thomas looked at him.
"Alexander raised him to hate."
Thirty years earlier.
When Alexander Thorne discovered that Elena had escaped with Khloe, he searched for both children.
But Khloe was protected.
Thomas helped Elena disappear.
She vanished with the daughter Alexander wanted erased.
Adrian was different.
He was found.
Taken.
Hidden.
Alexander didn't kill him.
Because Alexander understood something.
A child who loses everything becomes easier to control.
Adrian grew up believing one thing.
The Thorne family destroyed his life.
And someone made sure that anger never disappeared.
Marcus looked at Thomas.
"Victor trained him."
Thomas nodded.
"Yes."
"And you knew?"
"I knew someone was manipulating him."
Marcus's eyes narrowed.
"Someone?"
Thomas hesitated.
That hesitation told Marcus everything.
"You know who."
Thomas looked exhausted.
"Yes."
"Who?"
A long silence.
Then Thomas answered.
"Alexander."
Marcus froze.
"That's impossible."
"He died."
Thomas nodded.
"Yes."
"Then how?"
Thomas looked at him.
"Because Alexander built something bigger than himself."
The Thorne empire had never only been about companies.
It had been about influence.
People.
Connections.
Promises.
Alexander had created a private network of loyalists.
People who believed the Thorne name was more important than morality.
Even after his death, they continued following his instructions.
A shadow empire.
A machine that kept moving without him.
And Adrian had been one of its victims.
Meanwhile, Adrian sat with Khloe.
For the first time, the anger between them had softened.
They were two strangers trying to become family.
"Do you hate me?"
Khloe looked surprised.
"Why would I hate you?"
Adrian looked down.
"Because I got the life you should have had."
Khloe frowned.
"What?"
"You had a mother."
She became quiet.
"I didn't."
"You had a normal childhood."
Khloe looked away.
"Not really."
Adrian smiled sadly.
"Still better than mine."
For a moment, neither spoke.
Then Khloe asked:
"Why did you come back now?"
Adrian looked at her.
"Because I found out the truth."
"What truth?"
His expression changed.
"That everything I believed was wrong."
Khloe waited.
Adrian continued.
"I spent my whole life thinking the Thorne family destroyed us."
A pause.
"But the person who raised me..."
His voice became darker.
"Was the one who destroyed us."
At Thorne Tower, Victor watched security footage.
He saw Marcus meeting Thomas.
He saw the two men talking.
And he knew.
The past was returning.
His phone rang.
Margaret.
"What happened?"
Victor didn't answer immediately.
"Thomas told him."
Margaret became silent.
"About Adrian?"
"No."
Victor looked at the screen.
"About everything."
For the first time, Margaret sounded uncertain.
"What do we do?"
Victor lowered his voice.
"We stop protecting the past."
"And?"
"We end it."
That night, Marcus returned to the hospital.
Khloe immediately noticed something was wrong.
"What did your father say?"
Marcus sat beside her.
"He knew Adrian was alive."
Khloe looked surprised.
"Why didn't he tell you?"
"Because he believed he was protecting me."
She studied his face.
"But you don't believe that."
Marcus looked at her.
"I don't know what to believe anymore."
Khloe reached for his hand.
"Then believe this."
"What?"
"I know you."
Marcus looked at her.
"You are not your family."
The words affected him.
Because that was his greatest fear.
That no matter what he did...
he would always be a Thorne.
Before Marcus could answer, the hospital lights suddenly flickered.
Once.
Twice.
Then darkness.
Khloe immediately grabbed his hand.
"Marcus..."
The security alarms failed.
Again.
Someone was inside.
Marcus stood.
The door opened slowly.
A figure entered.
Not security.
Not a doctor.
A man.
Older.
Carrying a small envelope.
Marcus moved forward.
"Who are you?"
The man looked at him.
"My name is Thomas Reed."
Marcus froze.
The doctor who saved Khloe.
The man who disappeared thirty years ago.
Alive.
Again.
Another person from the past returning.
Thomas Reed placed the envelope on the table.
"I know why everyone is lying."
Marcus stared.
"What is inside?"
The old doctor looked at Khloe.
"Proof."
"Proof of what?"
Thomas Reed's expression became serious.
"Proof that Khloe's birth was never the biggest secret."
Silence.
Marcus stepped closer.
"Then what was?"
The doctor looked at him.
"The identity of her father."
Khloe froze.
"My father?"
Thomas Reed nodded.
"The man who created this entire war."
Marcus felt cold.
"Who?"
The doctor opened the envelope.
Inside was a photograph.
A man standing beside Elena.
A man Marcus recognized.
A man who changed everything.
Because the person in the picture was not Alexander Thorne.
Not Thomas Thorne.
Not anyone from the family.
It was someone who had been forgotten.
Someone everyone believed was dead.
And the name written behind the photo was:
Richard Marquez.
Khloe's real father.
Marcus looked at the photograph.
Then at Khloe.
Thirty years of secrets.
Thirty years of lies.
And suddenly he understood.
The Thorne empire wasn't the beginning of the story.
It was only the middle.
The real story started with Khloe's father.

And whoever erased him...
was still alive.
