Chapter 10 - The Son Who Came Back For Revenge

Ethan watched the security footage again.

Then again.

And again.

Every time, the same impossible truth appeared on the screen.

The masked person who entered the Vale Holdings archive…

was Noah.

Claire’s son.

His missing brother.

The child who had disappeared before Ethan even knew he existed.

For years, Ethan believed Claire’s greatest pain was losing her life.

Now he realized something worse.

She had died while searching for someone she loved.

Someone she never stopped trying to find.

Ethan closed the laptop.

His hands were shaking.

Not from fear.

From anger.

Because Noah had been alive.

And someone had known.

Someone had allowed Claire to believe her son was lost forever.

Someone had let Ethan raise Sophie while an entire part of their family remained hidden.

His phone buzzed.

A message.

Unknown number.

“Come alone if you want answers.”

A location appeared.

An abandoned train station outside the city.

Ethan stared at the message.

Every instinct told him it was a trap.

But every unanswered question pulled him toward it.

He looked at Sophie sleeping upstairs.

Then at the broken blue music box.

Five years ago, Claire had hidden the truth there.

Five years ago, she had known this day would come.

Ethan placed the music box pieces inside a small box.

Then he left.

The abandoned station looked exactly like the kind of place where secrets disappeared.

Broken windows.

Empty platforms.

Rust covering old metal signs.

Ethan walked slowly.

“Show yourself.”

For several seconds, nothing happened.

Then footsteps echoed.

A young man stepped out from the shadows.

Ethan stopped.

He had expected someone dangerous.

Someone cold.

Someone like Richard.

But Noah looked different.

He was younger than Ethan imagined.

Late twenties.

Dark hair.

Claire’s eyes.

The resemblance was impossible to ignore.

“You’re Ethan.”

Not a question.

A statement.

Ethan stared.

“You know who I am.”

Noah gave a bitter smile.

“My whole life, I knew who you were.”

The words hurt.

“Then why didn’t you come to us?”

Noah looked away.

“Because Claire told me not to.”

Ethan froze.

“My wife knew where you were?”

“Yes.”

The answer destroyed another piece of reality.

“When?”

“Before she died.”

“Why?”

Noah looked directly at him.

“Because someone inside the family was watching her.”

Ethan stepped closer.

“Who?”

Noah shook his head.

“That’s the wrong question.”

“Then what is?”

“Why did Claire choose you?”

Ethan frowned.

“What?”

Noah walked closer.

“My mother had proof that could destroy the Vale family.”

“Then why hide it?”

“Because she discovered something worse.”

“What?”

Noah’s voice became quiet.

“She discovered that you were being used.”

Ethan felt the same cold feeling return.

“What does that mean?”

Noah looked at him.

“Your entire life.”

A pause.

“Your marriage.”

“Your company.”

“Your inheritance.”

“Everything.”

He pointed toward Ethan.

“It was designed.”

Ethan shook his head.

“No.”

“Yes.”

Noah reached into his jacket.

He pulled out a small envelope.

Inside was a document.

Ethan looked down.

His face changed.

It was a birth record.

His birth record.

But the information was different.

His mother’s name.

His father’s name.

And one additional note.

A handwritten message from Claire.

“Ethan was never supposed to inherit the Vale empire.”

Ethan looked up.

“What is this?”

Noah answered:

“The reason Claire died.”

Back at home, Ethan found Natalie waiting.

She was sitting in the living room.

Not hiding.

Not pretending.

“You met him.”

Ethan stopped.

“How did you know?”

Natalie looked exhausted.

“Because I knew you would.”

“You knew Noah was alive.”

“Yes.”

The honesty shocked him.

“You lied to me.”

“Yes.”

“Why?”

Natalie looked at Sophie’s bedroom.

“Because Claire asked me to.”

Ethan went silent.

“My wife asked you to lie?”

Natalie nodded.

“She believed if you knew Noah existed, you would search for him.”

“I would.”

“Exactly.”

“And?”

“And whoever was watching Claire would start watching you.”

Ethan stared.

“Who?”

Natalie looked toward the dark hallway.

Then whispered:

“Someone who has been protecting you your entire life.”

“That makes no sense.”

May you like

Natalie’s eyes filled with sadness.

“It will.”
