Chapter 11 - The Truth About Ethan Vale

The next morning, Ethan received a package.
No sender.
No address.
Inside was a single folder.
The first page contained a photograph.
A baby.
Him.
Held by Claire.
And beside them…
a woman Ethan did not recognize.
On the back of the photo was written:
“The woman who saved Ethan’s life.”
Ethan continued reading.
The documents inside revealed something impossible.
Years before Ethan became CEO of Vale Holdings, there was another person chosen to inherit everything.
Not him.
Not Richard’s bloodline.
Someone else.
A child who disappeared.
A child whose existence was erased.
Ethan read the final page.
Then stopped.
Because the name written there was familiar.
Noah.
He looked up.
“No.”
Everything connected.
Noah wasn’t just Claire’s son.
He was connected to the Vale inheritance.
The ledger.
The company.
The secrets.
But why?
Why had Claire hidden Noah?
Why had Richard disappeared?
Why had Ethan been placed at the center of everything?
Then another document fell from the folder.
A letter.
From Claire.
Ethan recognized the handwriting instantly.
My love,
If you found this, then you finally know the truth.
I wanted to tell you.
Every day.
But I was afraid.
Not of losing you.
Of losing Sophie.
The people who control the Vale family do not destroy enemies.
They erase them.
Ethan continued.
You were never chosen because you were the strongest.
You were chosen because you were the safest.
They thought you were someone they could control.
But they were wrong.
Because I knew something they didn’t.
You would choose your daughter over power.
Every single time.
Ethan’s eyes filled.
Claire had known him better than anyone.
The letter continued.
The person who destroyed my life is not Richard.
Not Natalie.
Not even Daniel.
The person who started everything is the one person you will never suspect.
Ethan turned the page.
But the final line was missing.
Someone had torn it away.
Only three words remained.
“Find the mother.”
Ethan stared.
The mother.
His mother?
Impossible.
His mother had been dead for years.
Unless…
A sound interrupted him.
The front door opened.
Ethan immediately stood.
A woman entered.
Older.
Carrying a small bag.
Her face was pale.
Her eyes filled with tears.
Ethan stopped breathing.
Because he knew that face.
Not from memory.
From photographs.
From stories.
From a past everyone told him was impossible.
The woman looked at him.
“Ethan…”
His voice disappeared.
The woman whispered:
“I’m sorry it took me so long.”
Ethan stepped back.
“No.”
She cried.
“I know what they told you.”
A pause.
“But your mother never died.”
The house became silent.
Upstairs, Sophie called:
“Daddy?”
Ethan looked toward the stairs.
Then back at the woman.
The impossible was standing in front of him.
His mother.
Alive.
And before Ethan could ask a single question…
she said the one sentence that changed the entire investigation.
“Claire was not killed because she found the secret.”
May you like
Her voice trembled.
“She was killed because she found out I was still alive.”
