CHAPTER 1 — THE ACCUSATION

(Nội dung mở rộng từ phần bạn cung cấp)

The words echoed through the wedding ballroom.

“Search her.”

Three simple words.

But they were enough to turn a celebration into a public execution.

The music stopped.

The laughter disappeared.

And hundreds of guests who had come to witness a beautiful wedding suddenly became witnesses to something far darker.

A woman being destroyed.

Emily Carter stood in the center of the ballroom with one hand resting protectively over her pregnant belly.

Eight months.

Eight months carrying the child of the man standing only a few feet away.

Her husband.

Daniel Whitmore.

The man who had promised her in front of God, family, and friends:

"I will protect you."

But tonight...

He didn't move.

He didn't speak.

He didn't defend her.

"Open the purse."

Daniel's mother, Margaret Whitmore, stepped forward.

Her diamond necklace sparkled beneath the chandelier lights.

Her voice was sharp.

Cold.

"You heard us."

Emily stared at her.

"You think I stole my own wedding ring?"

Margaret smiled.

"Nobody said you stole it."

A pause.

"But if you have nothing to hide..."

She reached toward Emily's handbag.

"...you won't mind proving it."

The guests watched silently.

Some looked uncomfortable.

Some looked away.

But nobody stopped them.

Because the Whitmore family controlled half the city's real estate empire.

And nobody wanted to become their enemy.

Emily looked at Daniel.

Her eyes begged for one thing.

Not money.

Not power.

Not revenge.

Just support.

"Daniel..."

Her voice cracked.

"Say something."

For a moment...

Their eyes met.

And Emily saw something she had never seen before.

Not confusion.

Not fear.

Calculation.

"I think we should cooperate."

His words felt like a knife.

Emily froze.

"Cooperate?"

Daniel stepped closer.

"The ring belonged to my grandmother."

His voice became louder.

"Everyone here deserves answers."

The room exploded with whispers.

Emily covered her mouth.

She couldn't believe it.

The man she loved was helping them.

Margaret grabbed Emily's purse.

The contents spilled onto the floor.

Lipstick.

Keys.

A phone.

Baby medication.

Nothing else.

Then...

One of the bridesmaids screamed.

"There!"

Everyone turned.

Near Emily's chair...

A small velvet box.

The missing diamond ring.

The ballroom went silent.

Margaret slowly picked it up.

Her expression was victorious.

"I think we found our answer."

Emily stared at the ring.

Impossible.

She had never touched it.

Never seen it.

Never even entered the room where it was kept.

But suddenly...

Everyone looked at her like she was guilty.

"Search her."

The command came again.

This time louder.

More cruel.

A woman approached.

Emily stepped backward.

"Don't touch me."

But nobody listened.

Someone grabbed her arm.

Someone pulled at her dress.

Someone demanded she empty every pocket.

Her face burned with humiliation.

Her baby moved inside her.

As if even her unborn child could feel the betrayal.

Then...

A sound interrupted everything.

Click.

The ballroom doors locked.

Everyone turned.

The security system activated.

Red lights flashed above the entrance.

Margaret frowned.

"What is this?"

Nobody answered.

Then the giant screen behind the stage lowered.

The wedding photographer's screen disappeared.

A security monitor appeared instead.

A voice came through the speakers.

"Before anyone destroys an innocent woman's reputation..."

A pause.

"Everyone deserves to see what really happened."

The first video began.

The bridal suite.

Two hours earlier.

The bridesmaid, Lauren, entered the room.

She looked nervous.

She opened the jewelry box.

Removed the diamond ring.

And placed it inside another bag.

The ballroom erupted.

"What?"

"Impossible."

"She did it?"

But then the video continued.

Lauren didn't act alone.

A few minutes later...

Daniel entered.

The groom.

Emily's husband.

The room became completely silent.

Daniel walked toward the box.

Opened it.

Removed a small envelope.

Then looked directly at the camera.

Emily stopped breathing.

Because she recognized that expression.

That calm face.

That cold calculation.

It was the same face that had watched her suffer minutes earlier.

The video changed.

A second recording appeared.

The bridal suite.

Daniel and Lauren talking.

Lauren whispered:

"Are you sure this will work?"

Daniel replied:

"Once everyone believes she betrayed us, she will sign anything."

The guests froze.

Emily's hand moved to her stomach.

"What..."

Her voice barely existed.

"What did he just say?"

The recording continued.

Daniel opened a folder.

Inside were legal documents.

Emily's company information.

Her inheritance records.

Her bank accounts.

Lauren looked worried.

"What if she refuses?"

Daniel smiled.

"She won't."

A pause.

"After tonight, she'll have no choice."

The ballroom went silent.

Because suddenly everyone understood.

The ring was never the target.

The humiliation was never the goal.

Daniel had planned something much bigger.

He wanted Emily powerless.

Broken.

Afraid.

And alone.

The bridesmaid collapsed.

"I didn't know it would go this far."

Everyone turned.

She was crying.

"I thought he only wanted the documents."

Emily stared.

"What documents?"

Lauren looked at Daniel.

Then whispered:

"The documents that transfer control of your company."

The entire room gasped.

Emily owned a billion-dollar medical technology company.

A company she built before she ever met Daniel.

A company Daniel had spent years trying to access.

Security moved forward.

Daniel's face finally changed.

For the first time...

He looked afraid.

He grabbed the security tablet containing the recordings.

Then ran.

The ballroom erupted.

Guards chased him toward the private elevator.

But before he reached it...

The elevator doors opened.

And beneath him...

A dark empty shaft.

Daniel stopped.

Cornered.

Breathing heavily.

Then slowly reached inside his jacket.

Everyone expected the ring.

But he didn't pull out a diamond.

He pulled out a small black flash drive.

Emily stared.

"What is that?"

Daniel looked at her.

And for the first time that night...

His voice wasn't arrogant.

It was desperate.

"This..."

He held up the flash drive.

"...is the reason they needed control of you."

Emily froze.

"What does that mean?"

Daniel looked around the ballroom.

Then back at his pregnant wife.

"The ring was just a distraction."

A pause.

"The real secret is inside this."

Nobody spoke.

Because everyone understood.

The wedding had not been ruined because of a missing diamond.

The wedding had been destroyed because someone had been hiding a much bigger truth.

Daniel looked at Emily one last time.

"Before you hate me..."

His voice lowered.

"Watch what happened twenty years ago."

Emily's face changed.

"Twenty years?"

Daniel nodded.

"Your family."

A pause.

"Your father's death."

Another pause.

"And the fortune you think belongs to you..."

He tightened his grip on the flash drive.

"It was never supposed to be yours."

The ballroom went silent.

And for the first time that night...

Emily realized something terrifying.

May you like

She was not being attacked because someone wanted her money.

She was being attacked because someone was afraid of what she would discover.
