Marcus admitted delivering the medication.
He denied knowing what it contained.
Helena had told him my mother’s prescription needed to be changed discreetly because she feared shareholders learning about her condition.
“Why didn’t you verify it?”
“I should have.”
My anger shook me.
“You handed my mother the thing that killed her.”
His face collapsed.
“I know.”

He had been trying to undo the unforgivable.

But the conspiracy thrived because decent people made one compromise and then another.

Gideon covered losses.
Marcus delivered medication without asking questions.
Owen erased files.
Each told himself he was doing something temporary.
Helena built an empire from their cowardice.
I told Marcus he could continue helping.
But he would eventually testify to everything.
