CHAPTER 16-THE OLD CLUE WITH A NEW MEANING

The words were barely audible.
But they destroyed the room.
“Daniel has my daughter.”
Alexander’s confession echoed through the hospital suite.
Marcus stared at him.
Not with anger.
With disbelief.
Because out of everyone in that room…
Alexander was the one person Marcus never questioned.
The man who stood beside him after his father’s death.
The man who helped him rebuild the company.
The man who protected him from enemies.
The man who had always said:
“Family is not always blood.”
And now…
That same man had betrayed them.
Or had he?
Khloe looked at Alexander carefully.
Because something felt wrong.
The fear in his eyes was real.
Not the fear of being exposed.
The fear of losing someone.
“Your daughter?”
Alexander nodded weakly.
Marcus immediately knelt beside him.
“What happened?”
Alexander looked at him.
“I thought I could handle it.”
His voice was shaking.
“I thought I could play along.”
“But Daniel knew.”
“Knew what?”
“That I had been investigating him.”
The room became silent.
Alexander continued.
“He found out I was helping you.”
“He found out I was searching for the original inheritance documents.”
“He found out I was trying to locate Sofia.”
“And then…”
His voice broke.
“He took my daughter.”
Khloe’s expression softened.
Not because she forgave him.
But because she understood fear.
A parent’s fear.
The kind that made people do impossible things.
“How long?”
Marcus asked.
Alexander closed his eyes.
“Six days.”
Marcus froze.
“Six days?”
“Yes.”
“And you said nothing?”
Alexander looked ashamed.
“I thought I could get her back.”
“And?”
“I failed.”
Silence.
The anger Marcus felt slowly changed.
Because he knew Alexander.
He knew he would never betray them willingly.
Not unless someone had forced him.
“What did Daniel make you do?”
Alexander looked at the floor.
“Give him information.”
“What information?”
“Your location.”
“Your plans.”
“The documents we found.”
Marcus’s face hardened.
“But you didn’t give him everything.”
Alexander looked up.
“No.”
“Why?”
“Because I was trying to buy time.”
A pause.
“I was waiting for an opportunity to save my daughter.”
Khloe looked at him.
“Where is she?”
Alexander’s expression changed.
“I don’t know.”
That answer frightened everyone.
“Daniel only sends messages.”
“He wants me to believe she is alive.”
Marcus looked toward the door.
“Then we get her back.”
Alexander shook his head.
“No.”
Everyone looked at him.
“You don’t understand.”
“What?”
“Daniel wants exactly that.”
“He wants you angry.”
“He wants you to rush.”
“He wants you to make a mistake.”
Marcus stared.
“He already took my company.”
“He threatened my wife.”
“He kidnapped your daughter.”
Alexander looked at him.
“And that’s why he wins.”
The words stopped Marcus.
Because they were true.
Daniel had spent his entire life studying the Thorne family.
He understood their weaknesses.
Their emotions.
Their patterns.
Richard controlled people through fear.
Daniel controlled people through desperation.
Khloe looked at the old documents.
“The vault.”
Everyone turned.
“What?”
She looked at Marcus.
“Daniel keeps talking about the vault.”
“Yes.”
“And everyone keeps assuming it contains money.”
Alexander shook his head.
“It doesn’t.”
Khloe looked at him.
“Then what?”
Alexander hesitated.
“The original records.”
“Proof of ownership.”
“Proof of Richard’s crimes.”
Khloe shook her head.
“No.”
Everyone looked at her.
“Something is wrong.”
Marcus frowned.
“What do you mean?”
“Think about it.”
She picked up her mother’s letter.
“Richard spent twenty years trying to erase me.”
“Yes.”
“Daniel spent years preparing to take the company.”
“Yes.”
“So why would they wait until now?”
Nobody answered.
“Why reveal themselves after I’m pregnant?”
Marcus looked at her.
Khloe continued.
“Why did Isabella attack me?”
“Why did Sofia suddenly call?”
“Why did my mother return?”
She looked around.
“Everything happened at the same time.”
Alexander slowly understood.
“This wasn’t a reaction.”
Khloe nodded.
“It was planned.”
Marcus stared.
“By who?”
Khloe looked at the documents.
“The person who knew everyone’s secrets.”
A silence.
“The person who could predict every move.”
Marcus looked at Claire.
Then Isabella.
Then Alexander.
But Khloe looked at something else.
The old letter.
A letter from her mother.
A letter everyone had focused on.
Except one detail.
She turned it over.
There was something written on the back.
Something nobody noticed.
A small sentence.
Hidden beneath the faded paper.
Trust the person who taught Marcus how to survive.
Marcus froze.
“My mother.”
Khloe looked at him.
“What?”
“My mother.”
He took the letter.
“She wrote this for me.”
He stared at the sentence.
“Who taught me how to survive?”
Nobody answered.
Then Claire spoke.
“Your father.”
Everyone turned.
Khloe frowned.
“Your father?”
Claire nodded.
“Marcus’s father?”
“No.”
She looked at Marcus.
“Your real father.”
The room froze.
Marcus stared.
“What?”
Claire’s expression became painful.
“Richard Thorne was never your biological father.”
Silence.
The sentence destroyed everything.
Marcus stepped back.
“No.”
Claire whispered:
“I’m sorry.”
“No.”
He shook his head.
“No.”
Khloe looked at Marcus.
The man who had spent his entire life believing he was Richard Thorne’s son.
The heir.
The successor.
The person shaped by Richard.
And now…
That identity was breaking apart.
“Who was my father?”
Marcus asked.
Claire looked at him.
“Someone Richard hated.”
“Someone who knew the truth.”
“Someone who tried to stop him.”
Marcus’s voice became quiet.
“Who?”
Claire looked at the photograph.
At the woman beside Richard.
At the family that had been destroyed.
“Your father was Ethan Bellini.”
Everyone froze.
Isabella’s face changed.
“Sofia’s father?”
Claire nodded.
“Yes.”
The room became silent.
Marcus looked at Isabella.
“What does that mean?”
Isabella looked like she had forgotten how to breathe.
“Marcus…”
She whispered.
“You are not a Thorne.”
A pause.
“You are a Bellini.”
The truth landed harder than anything before.
The man who built the Thorne empire…
Was not a Thorne by blood.
The son Richard raised as his heir…
Was the son of the family Richard destroyed.
Then Marcus’s phone received a message.
One final message.
From Daniel.
A photo appeared.
Alexander’s daughter.
Alive.
But standing beside Daniel.
And beneath the picture:
“Now you know the truth.”
“Come to Thorne Manor.”
“Bring Marcus.”
“It is time he meets his real family.”
Marcus stared at the screen.
Khloe grabbed his hand.
This time…
Not because she needed protection.
Because he needed support.
And for the first time in his life…
Marcus Thorne understood something.
The empire he spent his life defending…
Was never his.
The family he believed was his…
Was never his.
And the enemy he feared…
Was actually the person who knew his true identity.
May you like
Daniel Thorne.
The man who had spent years waiting for him to discover who he really was.
