Chapter 20 - A NEW BEGINNING

That evening, a small, intimate gathering was held in the grand dining room of Reed Manor.

There were no arrogant socialites, no fake smiles, and no corporate politics. Present were only true friends: Special Agent Marcus Vance, the loyal domestic staff who had supported Emily during her time as a maid, and key members of the foundation board.

The long mahogany table was laden with food, candlelight flickering against the crystal glasses.

Daniel stood up at the head of the table, raising his glass of champagne.

"I'd like to propose a toast," Daniel said, his voice filled with warmth and deep emotion. "To truth. To justice. And to the woman who showed us all that courage is stronger than any lie."

Everyone stood up, raising their glasses high. "To Emily!"

Emily smiled, her eyes glistening with happy tears, as she clinked her glass against Daniel's.

Later that night, after the guests had departed, Emily and Daniel walked together out into the quiet rear gardens. The warm summer breeze rustled through the oak trees, and the sky above was a canvas of brilliant, shining stars.

They stopped near the marble fountain at the center of the lawn.

Daniel took both of her hands in his, looking deep into her eyes. "Emily, fifteen years ago, our families were brought together by a dark tragedy. But tonight, I want to start a new story. A story built on truth, trust, and love."

He slowly dropped to one knee on the soft grass, pulling a small black ring box from his jacket. He opened it to reveal a simple, breathtaking solitaire diamond ring.

"Emily Reed... will you marry me?"

Emily’s breath caught in her throat. The pain of her past, the cold days of poverty, the humiliating night in the foyer—all of it faded away into the quiet beauty of the night.

"Yes," Emily whispered, her voice filled with absolute joy. "Yes, Daniel! A thousand times, yes!"

Daniel stood up, slipping the ring onto her finger, and pulled her into a passionate embrace, lifting her slightly off her feet as the stars shone brightly above them.
