Chapter 19 - RECLAIMING THE PAST
Six months later.
The morning sun shone brightly over the rolling green hills of the estate. The heavy storm clouds that had hung over the property for months were gone, replaced by a clear, infinite blue sky.
The grand sign at the front entrance of the mansion had been restored to its original gold lettering: THE REED MANOR.
Following the federal trial, Arthur Sterling was sentenced to thirty years in federal prison without parole. Margaret Vance received fifteen years for her role in the conspiracy, while Vanessa was sentenced to five years for assault, framing, and obstruction of justice.
Vance Enterprises was restructured, with Daniel remaining as CEO, working alongside Emily, who was appointed Head of the newly established Benjamin Reed Charitable Foundation—an organization dedicated to helping victims of corporate fraud and wrongful prosecution.
Emily stood on the second-floor balcony of the manor, wearing a simple white silk dress, watching the morning fog lift from the gardens.
Soft footsteps sounded behind her. Warm arms wrapped around her waist, and Daniel rested his chin gently on her shoulder.
"What are you thinking about?" Daniel asked softly, kissing her cheek—the cheek that no longer bore any trace of a bruise.
"I was thinking about my father," Emily murmured, leaning back against his chest. "For fifteen years, I thought his memory would always be tied to shame and tragedy. But today... looking at this house... I feel like he's finally at peace."
Daniel reached into his pocket, pulling out a small velvet box. He opened it, revealing the silver antique locket E.R.—now fully restored, polished to a mirror shine, hanging from a delicate gold chain.
Gently, Daniel placed the necklace around her neck, fastening the clasp.
Emily touched the locket with her fingertips, feeling its warmth. "Thank you, Daniel. For believing in me when everyone else thought I was just a thief."
