CHAPTER 12 — THE HEIR WHO WAS RAISED TO DESTROY VINCENT MORETTI

The name on the document felt heavier than a weapon.
Vincent Moretti stared at the page.
For several seconds, the entire world seemed to disappear.
The sounds around him faded.
The guards outside the estate.
The wind moving through the trees.
Even Daniel Cross standing in front of him.
Nothing mattered.
Because one name had just reopened a wound Vincent thought had healed decades ago.
Adrian Moretti.
Daniel watched Vincent carefully.
For the first time, he wasn't enjoying someone else's pain.
He was afraid.
“You know him.”
It wasn't a question.
Vincent slowly lifted his eyes.
“Where did you get this?”
Daniel swallowed.
“Victoria.”
Of course.
The answer made everything worse.
Vincent closed the folder.
“Why would she give this to you?”
Daniel looked away.
“Because she wanted me to understand what I was really involved in.”
A bitter smile appeared.
“She never saw me as a partner.”
A pause.
“Just a tool.”
Vincent believed him.
Because that was exactly how Victoria operated.
Lena entered the room.
She immediately felt the tension.
“What happened?”
Nobody answered.
Her eyes moved between Vincent and Daniel.
Then she noticed something.
Fear.
Not from Daniel.
From Vincent.
And that frightened her more than anything.
“Vincent?”
He looked at her.
For a moment, he considered hiding the truth.
But he remembered his promise.
No more lies.
Not from him.
“There is another heir.”
Lena froze.
“Another?”
Vincent nodded.
“A brother.”
Silence.
The word felt impossible.
“My brother?”
Vincent looked down.
“Yes.”
Lena sat slowly.
Another child.
Another secret.
Another person erased from history.
How many pieces of her life had been hidden from her?
“How?”
Her voice trembled.
“How can an entire person disappear?”
Vincent looked at the floor.
“Because powerful families don't just hide information.”
A pause.
“They hide people.”
The documents revealed the truth.
Twenty-nine years ago, Isabella Moretti gave birth to twins.
Lena.
And Adrian.
Two children.
Two heirs.
Two lives that were supposed to belong to the same family.
But their father believed the Moretti empire could only survive with one successor.
So he made a choice.
Lena was hidden away.
Adrian was taken.
Raised inside the darkest parts of the Moretti world.
While Lena learned kindness…
Adrian learned survival.
While Lena learned to forgive…
Adrian learned never to trust.
“Where is he now?”
Lena asked.
Vincent didn't answer immediately.
Because he knew.
And he didn't know how to say it.
Finally:
“He’s been working against me for years.”
Her expression changed.
“You mean…”
“Yes.”
Vincent looked at the documents.
“The person attacking the Moretti empire…”
A pause.
“Is my brother.”
That evening, Vincent went alone to the old family mansion.
The place where everything began.
The place where he and Adrian had once played as children.
Before everything was taken from them.
He walked through the empty halls.
And remembered.
Adrian was always different.
Even as a child.
While Vincent was quiet, Adrian was curious.
While Vincent listened, Adrian questioned.
He was the child who would sneak into their father's office.
The child who wanted to know why their family had so many secrets.
Their father hated that.
Because curiosity was dangerous.
Especially in a Moretti.
Vincent found an old room.
Adrian's childhood room.
Almost untouched.
On the wall was a small drawing.
Two boys.
Standing beside a girl.
Underneath it, written in childish handwriting:
“Three Morettis forever.”
Vincent touched the paper.
Because Adrian wasn't just his enemy.
He was his little brother.
The brother he failed to protect.
A voice came from the darkness.
“You still keep memories.”
Vincent turned.
A man stepped forward.
Tall.
Cold.
Familiar.
Adrian Moretti.
For the first time in decades…
The two brothers stood face-to-face.
Vincent said nothing.
Neither did Adrian.
Because sometimes the deepest wounds didn't need words.
Finally, Adrian spoke.
“You look exactly like him.”
Vincent's eyes hardened.
“Our father?”
Adrian smiled without humor.
“The man who destroyed us.”
“You're alive.”
Adrian laughed softly.
“Were you hoping I wasn't?”
“No.”
The answer surprised him.
Vincent stepped closer.
“I spent years believing you were dead.”
Adrian's expression changed slightly.
“Good.”
A pause.
“Because I spent years believing you forgot me.”
Vincent froze.
Because that was the truth.
He had remembered Adrian.
But he had never searched.
Why?
Because he was told Adrian died.
Because his father controlled the information.
Because Vincent was a child.
But guilt didn't care about age.
“Victoria knew.”
Adrian nodded.
“She always knew.”
“Why didn't she tell me?”
Adrian looked at him.
“Because Victoria understood something.”
“What?”
“That if you knew I was alive…”
A cold smile appeared.
“You would choose me over the empire.”
The words hit harder than expected.
Because deep down…
Vincent knew they were true.
Back at the safe house, Lena received an unexpected visitor.
Not Daniel.
Not Victoria.
A woman.
Older.
Carrying a small box.
“I knew I would find you eventually.”
Lena looked confused.
“Who are you?”
The woman opened the box.
Inside was a necklace.
Identical to Lena's.
“I knew your mother.”
Lena froze.
“Isabella?”
The woman nodded.
“She left something for you.”
“What?”
The woman handed her an envelope.
A letter.
Written before Isabella died.
Lena opened it.
The first words made her cry.
My dear daughter,
If you are reading this, then the truth has finally found you.
I am sorry you inherited a name that brought you pain.
But remember this:
The Moretti blood is not what makes you powerful.
Your heart does.
Lena continued reading.
Then she reached the final sentence.
And stopped.
Your brother Adrian is not your enemy.
He is the person who suffered the most.
Meanwhile, Adrian stood across from Vincent.
“You think Lena can save this family?”
Vincent stared at him.
“She already has.”
Adrian laughed.
“No.”
His voice became colder.
“She is exactly why this family will fall.”
“Why?”
Adrian stepped closer.
“Because you love her.”
Silence.
Vincent didn't deny it.
And Adrian noticed.
“That’s your weakness.”
For years, Vincent Moretti had been feared because he had nothing to lose.
No emotions.
No attachments.
No weaknesses.
But Adrian saw the truth.
The woman everyone tried to erase…
Was the one person who could destroy Vincent.
Or save him.
Before leaving, Adrian placed a final document on the table.
Vincent opened it.
Inside was a list of names.
Members of the Moretti organization.
People who had betrayed him.
People who had helped erase Lena.
People who had destroyed Adrian's life.
At the bottom was one final name.
The person who had ordered everything.
Not Victoria.
Not Daniel.
Someone else.
Someone Vincent trusted.
Vincent stared at the name.
His face went cold.
May you like
Because the person responsible for destroying his family…
Was someone who had been standing beside him all along.
