CHAPTER 11 — The Battle For The Holloway Name

The security monitor showed Thomas Whitmore standing beside Eleanor Holloway.

Two people who had spent years pretending to protect me.

Two people who now stood outside my gates with a document carrying my name.

A document I had never seen.

A signature I had never given.

My first reaction wasn't fear.

It was disbelief.

Because there was one thing I knew better than anyone.

My own signature.

I had signed thousands of documents over the years.

Business agreements.

Estate paperwork.

Charity contracts.

Legal forms.

I knew every curve.

Every line.

Every detail.

And the signature on that paper...

Looked like mine.

But it wasn't.

Charlotte stepped closer to the monitor.

"Do not open the gate."

I looked at her.

"I wasn't going to."

Good.

Because whoever was outside wanted exactly that.

They wanted access.

Not just physically.

Psychologically.

They wanted me to react.

To rush.

To accuse.

To make a mistake.

Charlotte watched Thomas carefully.

"He came prepared."

Damian stood behind us.

His expression had become unreadable.

But I noticed something.

His hands were clenched.

A small detail.

A detail that told me this wasn't just about me.

It was about him too.

"Who is Thomas to your family?"

I asked.

Damian looked at the screen.

"The person who taught me how to win."

The answer surprised me.

"And now?"

His eyes hardened.

"Now he's the person I should have stopped years ago."

The intercom activated.

Eleanor's voice filled the entrance hall.

"Claire."

I didn't answer.

"Claire, open the gate."

Still nothing.

She sighed.

The dramatic sigh of someone pretending patience while losing control.

"I understand you are upset."

Charlotte almost laughed.

Almost.

Eleanor continued.

"But this has gone far enough."

I looked at the monitor.

There it was again.

The performance.

The same one she had used outside the courthouse.

The concerned mother.

The reasonable woman.

The victim.

"Claire."

Her voice became softer.

"You don't understand what is happening."

That sentence bothered me.

Because people always said that when they wanted power over information.

When they wanted you to doubt yourself.

"You need to come outside."

I finally answered through the intercom.

"No."

Silence.

Then Eleanor's tone changed.

A little colder.

"Excuse me?"

"You heard me."

"Claire..."

I interrupted.

"No."

The word echoed through the hall.

"I am not coming outside."

Thomas stepped closer to the camera.

His voice replaced Eleanor's.

"Then we will speak through your attorney."

Charlotte moved toward the microphone.

"I am listening."

Thomas smiled.

"Charlotte Hayes."

His tone carried familiarity.

"You always were difficult."

Charlotte didn't react.

"You always were careless."

The smile disappeared from Thomas's face.

"Careful."

Charlotte's voice remained calm.

"That accusation works both ways."

Thomas looked directly at the camera.

"We have evidence that Claire transferred control of certain estate assets before the divorce."

I looked at the monitor.

"What?"

Charlotte's expression didn't change.

"Let him continue."

Thomas held up the document.

"A signed agreement."

"Executed six months ago."

"Voluntarily."

"Easily verified."

The silence inside the mansion became heavy.

Because if that document was real...

Everything changed.

Charlotte spoke.

"Send a copy."

Thomas smiled.

"Of course."

A moment later...

The file arrived.

Charlotte opened it.

Everyone watched her expression.

That was the hardest part.

Because Charlotte was almost impossible to read.

But after thirty seconds...

Something changed.

A tiny movement.

A slight narrowing of her eyes.

I noticed.

"What?"

She didn't answer immediately.

She continued scrolling.

Then she looked up.

"Interesting."

I hated that word.

Every time Charlotte said it...

Something terrible followed.

"What is it?"

She turned the screen toward me.

The document showed an agreement between myself and a company called:

Holloway Strategic Holdings.

The signature.

My signature.

The date.

Six months earlier.

The same period when Damian and I were still married.

The agreement stated:

Claire Holloway voluntarily grants temporary management authority over inherited estate assets to Holloway Strategic Holdings.

I stared.

"No."

Charlotte looked at me.

"Do you remember signing this?"

"No."

"Not even a draft?"

"No."

She nodded.

"Good."

I looked at her.

"Good?"

"Because this confirms something."

"What?"

She zoomed in.

"The signature is fake."

I exhaled.

"How can you tell?"

Charlotte pointed.

"Your signature has a specific pressure pattern."

She looked at the document.

"This was copied."

I stared.

"Copied?"

"Yes."

She turned to Damian.

"Someone had access to Claire's previous signatures."

Damian's face changed.

Then slowly...

He looked at Eleanor.

The room went silent.

Because there was only one place someone could have obtained years of my signed documents.

My home.

My office.

My personal files.

Eleanor had spent years inside my estate.

Outside...

Thomas continued.

"You have until tomorrow morning to cooperate."

Charlotte looked at the monitor.

"Cooperate with what?"

"With the transfer."

"Or?"

Thomas smiled.

"Or we file for emergency guardianship."

My blood ran cold.

There it was.

The real attack.

Not ownership.

Control.

They wanted a court order saying I couldn't manage my own assets.

Then they could legally access everything.

Charlotte closed the laptop.

"They're desperate."

Damian looked at her.

"Why?"

"Because they know something."

"What?"

She looked at the Blackwood documents.

"They know Claire found the account."

The room became silent.

Thomas and Eleanor weren't moving because they wanted the estate.

They were moving because they were running out of time.

After they left...

Nobody spoke for several minutes.

Then Damian finally said:

"I should have stopped her."

I looked at him.

"Your mother?"

He nodded.

"Before the wedding."

The honesty surprised me.

"What do you mean?"

Damian sat down.

For the first time...

He looked exhausted.

"My mother always saw people as resources."

"She didn't care about love."

"She cared about alliances."

I watched him.

"And me?"

His expression changed.

"You were supposed to be an alliance."

The words hurt.

Even though I already knew.

But then he continued.

"Until you weren't."

I said nothing.

"She expected me to marry you, locate the account, and convince you to transfer control."

"And when you refused?"

"She planned to remove you."

A cold feeling moved through me.

"Remove me?"

Damian looked away.

"From the estate."

"From the company."

"From the entire situation."

I understood.

Not physically.

Legally.

Socially.

Financially.

Destroy the person.

Then take everything.

That night...

Charlotte discovered something hidden inside the fake transfer agreement.

A small detail.

A company registration number.

Holloway Strategic Holdings.

The company supposedly managing my assets.

But when she searched the records...

The owner wasn't Damian.

It wasn't Eleanor.

It wasn't Thomas.

It belonged to someone else.

Someone none of us expected.

Charlotte stared at the screen.

"No."

I looked at her.

"What?"

She turned the laptop around.

The ownership record displayed a name.

A name that made Damian stand immediately.

Because he knew it.

Victor knew it.

Everyone knew it.

Eleanor Holloway.

But beneath her name...

Was another shareholder.

A hidden partner.

A silent owner.

Someone who had been financing the entire operation.

Charlotte whispered:

"The person behind all of this..."

She looked at Damian.

"Is not your mother."

The room went silent.

"Then who?"

Charlotte clicked the file.

A photograph appeared.

A man.

Older.

Powerful.

Familiar.

The same man from the old security footage.

Richard Vale.

My father's former enemy.

The man Eleanor met before my parents died.

The man believed to be connected to the original Blackwood investigation.

Damian stared at the screen.

"My mother wasn't stealing the estate."

He swallowed.

"She was working for him."

And suddenly...

The battle wasn't between Claire Holloway and Damian's family.

It was bigger.

Much bigger.

Because the people who wanted the house...

Were only the first layer.

May you like

And the person who had been pulling the strings for twenty years...

Had finally stepped into the light.
