Chapter 16 - The Enemy Inside The Family

The photograph of Maisie changed everything.
It was not a threat from the past.
It was proof.
Someone was still close.
Someone was watching.
Someone knew every move they made.
Graham stared at the image on his phone.
His daughter was standing outside the school.
Looking happy.
Looking safe.
But whoever took the picture had been close enough to capture a moment nobody else noticed.
Natalie immediately pulled Maisie away from the window.
“From now on, she is never alone.”
Graham nodded.
For the first time, he didn’t argue.
He didn’t explain.
He didn’t defend anyone.
Because he finally understood something.
His need to believe everything was fine had almost destroyed his daughter.
Detective Reyes reviewed every piece of evidence again.
The threats.
The hidden files.
The handwriting.
The connection between Vivian and Marcus.
Then she found something.
A name.
Daniel Cross.
Vivian’s first husband.
The man everyone thought had disappeared.
“He wasn’t missing,” Reyes said.
Natalie looked up.
“What do you mean?”
“He changed his identity.”
The room went silent.
Daniel Cross had been alive for years.
And his new name was Daniel Whitmore.
Graham felt the blood leave his face.
“No.”
Detective Reyes placed the file on the table.
“He was your father’s legal assistant.”
Everything became clear.
The person who knew the company.
The person who knew the family.
The person who could manipulate Vivian.
Daniel.
Not Vivian.
Not Marcus.
Daniel had been the invisible hand.
The man who created the revenge plan from the beginning.
Natalie looked at the timeline.
“Then Vivian was just a tool.”
Reyes nodded.
“She thought she was controlling the situation.”
A sad smile crossed Natalie’s face.
“But she was being controlled too.”
That night, Graham visited Vivian in prison.
Not because he forgave her.
Because he needed answers.
Vivian sat behind the glass.
For the first time, she looked different.
Not powerful.
Not perfect.
Broken.
“You know now, don’t you?”
Graham stared at her.
“Daniel used you.”
Vivian’s expression changed.
A small crack appeared in her confidence.
“He said he loved me.”
Graham said nothing.
“He said we were going to build the life I deserved.”
Her eyes filled with anger.
“But he lied.”
For the first time, Graham saw the truth.
Vivian was guilty.
But she was also another victim of someone more dangerous.
Before Graham left, Vivian grabbed the phone.
“Graham.”
He stopped.
“Find Maisie.”
His face changed.
“She’s safe.”
Vivian shook her head.
“No.”
Her voice trembled.
“He doesn’t want your money anymore.”
A pause.
“He wants to erase the last person who knows the truth.”
Graham felt cold.
“Who?”
May you like
Vivian whispered:
“Your daughter.”
