The words still echoed inside Arthur Blackwell’s mind.
“I am Victoria Blackwell’s daughter.”
For several minutes, nobody moved.

Arthur found her standing in the old room.

“Yes.”

Victoria looked at him.
“I suspected.”
“Suspected?”
His voice sharpened.
“You spent twenty years searching for her and you never found out she was working in your own house?”
Victoria closed her eyes.
“I searched everywhere.”
“Except where?”
The silence answered.
Arthur looked disappointed.
And that hurt Victoria more than anger.
“She was close.”
Victoria whispered.
“But I was afraid.”
“Afraid of what?”
“The truth.”
Arthur stepped closer.
“Why did Lily become a maid?”
Victoria looked at the floor.
“Because she was hiding.”
“From you?”
Victoria’s eyes filled with pain.
“No.”
A pause.
“From my family.”
Arthur stared.
“What did they do?”
Victoria didn’t answer.
And Arthur knew.
Whatever happened was worse than he imagined.
Later that night, Lily sat with Maya in their small room inside the servant quarters.
“Maya.”
“Yes, Mom?”
“There is something I need to tell you.”
Maya looked worried.
“About Mrs. Blackwell?”
Lily nodded.
“Yes.”
“She is my mother.”
Maya’s eyes widened.
“But she was mean to us.”
Lily looked away.
“I know.”
“Then why?”
Lily struggled to answer.
Because how could she explain twenty years of pain to a child?
How could she explain that sometimes people who hurt others are also people who were hurt?
“She made mistakes.”
Maya frowned.
“Big mistakes?”
Lily nodded.
“Very big.”
The next morning, Arthur made a decision.
A decision that would change everything.
He called a press conference.
Daniel looked shocked.
“Sir, are you sure?”
Arthur adjusted his suit.
“Yes.”
“About what?”
Arthur looked toward the mansion.
“About exposing the truth.”
Daniel hesitated.
“Mr. Blackwell, if you reveal this…”
“I know.”
“It could damage the company.”
Arthur nodded.
“It could.”
“Then why do it?”
Arthur answered without hesitation.
“Because protecting a reputation built on lies is not worth saving.”
But before Arthur could step onto the stage…
His phone rang.
Unknown number.
He answered.
A voice spoke.
“Arthur Blackwell.”
He recognized it.
Richard Sterling.
“What do you want?”
A cold laugh.
“You’re making a mistake.”
Arthur’s expression hardened.
“No.”
Richard replied:
“You think you’re saving Lily.”
A pause.
“But you have no idea what she really is.”
Arthur frowned.
“What does that mean?”
Richard whispered:
“Ask her who Maya’s father is.”
The call ended.
Arthur stood frozen.
His eyes moved toward the mansion.
Toward Lily.
Toward Maya.
Another secret.
Another lie.

It involved Maya.
Inside the mansion, Victoria looked at Lily with tears in her eyes.
“I lost you once.”
Lily remained silent.

Lily’s voice was cold.
“You already did.”
