CHAPTER 5: The Maid Who Was Never Just a Maid

The rain poured over the Blackwell mansion that night.

But inside the old hidden room, the storm was much stronger.

Arthur Blackwell stood frozen, holding the photograph of a young Victoria Sterling holding a baby.

A baby named Lily.

His mind struggled to accept what he had just discovered.

The woman who had spent years humiliating servants…

Had once been a young mother.

The woman who had shown no mercy to Maya…

Had once lost a child herself.

But one question remained.

Where was Lily now?

Victoria stood near the doorway, silent.

For the first time, Arthur saw something he had never seen before.

Fear.

Not anger.

Not arrogance.

Not the confidence of the woman who controlled everyone around her.

Fear.

“Tell me everything.”

Arthur’s voice was calm.

But Victoria knew there was no escaping anymore.

She walked into the room slowly.

“This room…”

She looked around.

“I thought I would never come back here.”

Arthur held the photograph tightly.

“You kept your daughter’s room for twenty years.”

Victoria looked at the small bed.

“The world thought I forgot her.”

A bitter smile appeared.

“But I never did.”

Arthur studied her.

“Then why did you let everyone believe she disappeared?”

Victoria closed her eyes.

“Because I was weak.”

The answer surprised him.

Victoria Blackwell admitting weakness felt impossible.

“My father controlled everything.”

She continued.

“When I became pregnant, he told me I had destroyed the Sterling name.”

Arthur’s expression hardened.

“He threatened you?”

Victoria nodded.

“He said if I kept the baby, I would lose everything.”

“What did you do?”

Victoria looked at the photograph.

“I fought.”

A pause.

“For three months, I fought.”

Her voice became softer.

“But I was nineteen. Alone. Scared.”

She swallowed.

“My father had lawyers. Money. Connections.”

Arthur remained silent.

“Then one night…”

Victoria looked down.

“He took Lily away.”

Arthur frowned.

“What do you mean he took her?”

“I woke up one morning.”

Her voice trembled.

“And my daughter was gone.”

The room became quiet.

“I searched everywhere.”

Victoria continued.

“I called hospitals. Police. Everyone.”

Arthur looked shocked.

“And?”

Victoria laughed sadly.

“No one helped me.”

“Why?”

“Because my father had already created a story.”

She looked at Arthur.

“He told everyone I gave my baby away.”

Arthur stared at her.

“That’s impossible.”

“No.”

Victoria shook her head.

“With enough money, impossible things become possible.”

Arthur walked to the desk and opened the old diary again.

The missing pages bothered him.

Someone had removed the most important part.

“Who took the pages?”

Victoria looked away.

“I don’t know.”

Arthur looked at her.

“Victoria.”

She remained silent.

“Who?”

After several seconds, she whispered:

“My brother.”

Arthur froze.

“Sebastian?”

Victoria nodded.

“My father made Sebastian handle the situation.”

Arthur felt anger rising.

The Sterling family had destroyed a child’s identity.

And Victoria had allowed it.

Even if she was a victim…

She had still kept silent.

“You spent twenty years searching?”

Victoria nodded.

“Yes.”

“Then why didn’t you tell me?”

Her expression changed.

“Because I was ashamed.”

Arthur looked at her.

“That’s not the only reason.”

Victoria said nothing.

And Arthur knew.

There was more.

Meanwhile…

In another part of the city, Lily Collins was cleaning the small apartment she shared with Maya.

The apartment was modest.

The furniture was old.

But it was home.

Maya sat at the table doing homework.

“Mom?”

“Yes, sweetheart?”

“Why did Mrs. Blackwell hate us?”

Lily stopped.

She looked toward the window.

“I don’t know.”

Maya lowered her pencil.

“She looked at me like she knew me.”

Those words made Lily freeze.

“What did you say?”

“She looked scared when she saw me.”

Lily forced a smile.

“You’re imagining things.”

But deep down…

She knew something was strange.

Because Victoria Blackwell had always treated her differently.

Not like a servant.

Not like an employee.

Like someone she was afraid of.

The next morning, Arthur called Lily to the mansion.

She arrived nervous.

She thought she was being fired.

“Mr. Blackwell…”

Arthur stood.

“Lily, I need to ask you something.”

She noticed his serious expression.

“What happened?”

Arthur looked at Maya.

Then at Lily.

“Do you know anything about Victoria’s past?”

Lily’s face changed.

Only for a second.

But Arthur noticed.

“You do.”

Lily looked away.

“I don’t know what you mean.”

“Lily.”

His voice softened.

“I’m not accusing you.”

A pause.

“I need the truth.”

Lily remained silent.

Then Maya walked closer.

“Mom?”

Lily looked at her daughter.

And something inside her broke.

For years, she had protected a secret.

But maybe keeping it hidden was causing more damage.

“I wasn’t always a maid.”

Arthur stared.

“What?”

Lily took a deep breath.

“My real name isn’t Lily Collins.”

Silence.

Maya looked confused.

“What do you mean?”

Lily closed her eyes.

“My name…”

She whispered:

“Was Lily Sterling.”

Arthur froze.

The same name.

The same name from the photograph.

Maya looked between them.

“I don’t understand.”

Lily knelt beside her.

“I wanted to tell you someday.”

Arthur’s heart raced.

“Are you saying…”

Lily nodded slowly.

“Yes.”

She looked at him.

“I am Victoria Blackwell’s daughter.”

The room went completely silent.

Arthur felt like the world had shifted beneath him.

The woman Victoria had tried to erase…

Had been standing in his mansion all along.

Working as a maid.

Raising her daughter.

Living a life far away from the wealth she was born into.

But the biggest shock was still coming.

Because Arthur noticed something.

The same birthmark.

The same eyes.

The same features.

Maya looked nothing like Lily Collins.

She looked like…

A Sterling.

Arthur whispered:

“Maya…”

Lily immediately became protective.

“Please.”

Her voice changed.

“Do not involve my daughter.”

Arthur looked at her.

“Why?”

Because Lily’s next words changed everything.

“Because Maya is the reason Victoria’s father tried to destroy me.”

Arthur froze.

“What?”

Lily looked toward the mansion.

“Twenty years ago, they didn’t just take my mother away from me.”

Her eyes filled with pain.

“They tried to erase me because I knew the truth.”

“What truth?”

Lily whispered:

“The Sterling family didn’t just hide a child.”

A pause.

“They hid a crime.”

At that exact moment…

Across the city, Sebastian Sterling received a message.

A photograph.

Arthur.

Lily.

Maya.

Together.

His expression changed.

“They found her.”

Victoria’s brother slowly smiled.

“After twenty years…”

He deleted the message.

“Time to finish what we started.”

Arthur thought he was uncovering Victoria’s past.

But now he understood.

This was bigger than a cruel wife.

Bigger than a family secret.

A child had been stolen.

A woman had been silenced.

And someone powerful had spent twenty years making sure the truth never came out.

But now…

The truth was awake.

May you like

And it was coming for the Sterling family.
