CHAPTER 3: The Woman Who Knew Victoria’s Darkest Secret

Arthur Blackwell did not sleep that night.

For the first time in years, the man who built a billion-dollar empire found himself powerless against a single question.

Was his entire marriage a lie?

The words from Elena Carter’s phone call kept repeating in his mind.

"Your marriage was never about love."

Arthur stood in his dark office, staring at the old wedding photograph sitting on his desk.

Twenty years ago.

He and Victoria.

Two people smiling for the cameras.

Everyone had called them the perfect couple.

The powerful businessman and the elegant heiress.

A marriage between two wealthy families.

A union that seemed impossible to break.

But now Arthur wondered…

Had he ever truly known the woman standing beside him?

The next morning, Arthur arrived at Blackwell Enterprises earlier than usual.

His assistant Daniel immediately noticed something was wrong.

“Mr. Blackwell?”

Arthur didn’t look up from the documents in his hand.

“Find everything you can about Elena Carter.”

Daniel paused.

“Elena Carter?”

“Yes.”

“Is this related to Mrs. Blackwell?”

Arthur looked at him.

“Don’t ask questions.”

Daniel nodded.

“Understood.”

But before Daniel could leave, Arthur added:

“And Daniel…”

“Yes?”

“Make sure nobody knows about this investigation.”

The assistant looked surprised.

Arthur Blackwell had never hidden anything before.

Not from employees.

Not from business partners.

Not from his own family.

But now…

He was investigating his own wife.

Meanwhile, Victoria was sitting inside the Sterling family mansion.

Unlike the Blackwell estate, this place felt colder.

More like a palace than a home.

Her father, Richard Sterling, sat at the head of the dining table.

A powerful man in his seventies.

Even age had not weakened him.

His eyes were sharp.

His voice was commanding.

“You embarrassed yourself.”

Victoria looked up.

“I was attacked.”

Richard laughed quietly.

“You?”

He placed his newspaper down.

“The woman who spent twenty years controlling an entire household was suddenly helpless?”

Victoria’s expression hardened.

“Arthur chose servants over me.”

“No.”

Richard corrected her.

“Arthur chose morality over you.”

Those words angered her.

“You’re supposed to support me.”

“I support victory.”

He leaned forward.

“And right now, you are losing.”

Victoria clenched her fists.

“I will make him regret this.”

Richard studied his daughter.

“You always think revenge solves everything.”

“It does.”

“No.”

His voice became colder.

“Revenge is what weak people choose when they have already lost control.”

Victoria looked away.

For a moment, she looked almost afraid.

Because her father knew her better than anyone.

That afternoon, Arthur received an email.

No subject.

No sender.

Only one attachment.

An old photograph.

He opened it.

And his entire body froze.

The picture showed Victoria.

But she was much younger.

Standing beside a woman Arthur had never seen before.

A woman holding a baby.

On the back of the photograph was one sentence:

"The truth about Victoria Blackwell began here."

Arthur stared at the image.

His hands tightened.

Who was that woman?

Who was the baby?

And why had Victoria hidden this?

Later that evening, Arthur drove alone to the address Elena Carter had provided.

An old neighborhood on the edge of the city.

A place completely different from the luxurious world Victoria lived in.

He stopped in front of a small house.

Before he could knock…

The door opened.

A woman in her fifties stood there.

Her expression changed when she saw him.

“You came.”

Arthur looked at her carefully.

“You’re Elena Carter?”

She nodded.

“Yes.”

“Why did you contact me?”

Elena stepped aside.

“Because you deserve to know the truth.”

Arthur entered.

The house was simple.

Old furniture.

Family photographs on the walls.

Nothing like the Blackwell mansion.

Elena noticed him looking around.

“Not everyone with a story has money behind them.”

Arthur remained silent.

“Tell me about Victoria.”

Elena took a deep breath.

“She was not who you thought she was.”

“I already know she can be cruel.”

Elena shook her head.

“No.”

She looked directly at him.

“You don’t understand.”

A pause.

“Victoria’s cruelty is not the secret.”

Arthur frowned.

“Then what is?”

Elena walked to a cabinet.

She pulled out an old file.

And placed it on the table.

“This.”

Arthur opened it.

Inside were documents.

Birth records.

Adoption papers.

And one name appeared repeatedly.

Victoria Sterling.

Arthur looked confused.

“What am I looking at?”

Elena whispered:

“The reason Victoria married you.”

Twenty years earlier…

Victoria Sterling was not interested in Arthur Blackwell because she loved him.

She was interested because of his family name.

His company.

His influence.

But there was another reason.

A secret that could have destroyed the Sterling family forever.

A secret involving a child.

A child Victoria abandoned.

A child whose identity had been erased.

Arthur looked up.

“What are you saying?”

Elena’s eyes filled with sadness.

“Victoria had a daughter before she met you.”

Arthur froze.

“What?”

“She was young. Nineteen years old.”

“That’s impossible.”

“No.”

Elena pushed the documents closer.

“It’s the truth.”

Arthur stared at the papers.

“Where is the child?”

Elena looked away.

“That is the question Victoria has spent twenty years trying to bury.”

Arthur’s voice lowered.

“Who knows about this?”

“Only a few people.”

“Who?”

Elena hesitated.

Then said:

“Your wife.”

“Your father-in-law.”

“And me.”

Arthur stood.

His anger was growing.

“Why would she hide her own daughter?”

Elena looked at him.

“Because the child was inconvenient.”

The room became silent.

Arthur felt sick.

A woman who could hurt a child for breaking a glass…

Had she done something worse twenty years ago?

Before Arthur could ask another question, Elena’s phone rang.

She looked at the screen.

Her face changed.

“What is it?”

She didn’t answer.

She simply showed him the message.

One sentence.

From an unknown number.

STOP DIGGING INTO THE PAST, OR YOU WILL LOSE EVERYTHING.

Arthur stared at it.

Then another message arrived.

This time with a photo.

A photo of Arthur entering Elena’s house.

Someone had been watching them.

Someone knew.

Arthur looked toward the window.

His expression turned cold.

“Victoria.”

Elena shook her head.

“Not just Victoria.”

Arthur looked at her.

“What do you mean?”

Elena whispered:

“The Sterling family protects its secrets together.”

At that exact moment, inside the Sterling mansion…

Victoria watched the same photograph on her phone.

Arthur entering Elena’s house.

She smiled.

“He found her.”

Sebastian Sterling looked worried.

“Victoria, if Arthur learns everything—”

“He won’t.”

“How can you be sure?”

Victoria placed the phone down.

“Because before he discovers my past…”

She looked toward the city.

“I’ll destroy his future.”

Arthur thought he was uncovering Victoria’s secret.

But he had no idea…

The truth he was chasing would reveal something even more shocking.

A secret child.

A hidden betrayal.

May you like

And a connection that would change Maya’s life forever.
