Chapter 15 — The Last Heir

Elena hit the floor.

Lucía screamed.

“Mom!”

Alejandro turned toward the hallway.

Victor stood there.

Gun raised.

Three armed men behind him.

“Drop your weapons.”

Mateo raised his first.

Victor smiled.

“You're outnumbered.”

Alejandro looked at Daniel.

The boy still held the gun.

But his hands were shaking.

“Daniel.”

Victor turned toward him.

“Shoot Alejandro.”

Daniel stared at him.

“No.”

Victor's expression changed.

“You know what happens if you disobey.”

Daniel looked toward Elena.

“She said you'd protect us.”

Victor laughed.

“Your grandmother lied.”

Daniel's eyes hardened.

“You're the liar.”

He turned the weapon toward Victor.

Victor fired.

Mateo tackled Daniel aside.

The bullet struck the wall.

Chaos erupted.

Alejandro grabbed Lucía.

Rafael pulled Sofia behind a pillar.

Mateo returned fire.

Victor's men scattered.

“Get Daniel!” Alejandro shouted.

Lucía ran toward her son.

Daniel froze when she reached him.

She didn't grab him.

She simply opened her arms.

Daniel stared at her.

For several seconds—

he didn't move.

Then he stepped forward.

Lucía embraced him.

“My baby.”

Daniel broke.

He buried his face against her shoulder.

“I thought you forgot me.”

“I was made to forget.”

“I waited.”

“I know.”

“I hated you.”

“I know.”

“I still loved you.”

Lucía began sobbing.

“I loved you every day.”

Alejandro stood nearby, unable to speak.

Daniel looked at him.

“Dad.”

Alejandro's eyes filled with tears.

“I'm here.”

Daniel nodded.

Then the ceiling lights turned on.

A voice echoed through the mansion.

Gabriel.

“You've reunited the family.”

Everyone froze.

Gabriel appeared on a balcony above the archive.

He looked almost amused.

“Beautiful.”

Alejandro looked up.

“This ends tonight.”

Gabriel smiled.

“No.”

He raised a folder.

“It begins tonight.”

He opened it.

Inside were dozens of documents.

“Every person who controls your company.”

“Every person who controls your bank accounts.”

“Every judge.”

“Every politician.”

“Every property.”

“Every secret.”

Alejandro stared.

“What do you want?”

Gabriel looked at Isabella.

“I want the heir.”

Alejandro stepped in front of his daughter.

“You're not getting her.”

Gabriel smiled.

“You misunderstand.”

He held up another document.

“I don't need to take her.”

He looked toward Daniel.

“I already have him.”

Daniel's face went pale.

Gabriel continued.

“Daniel is the legal successor to the Black Serpent.”

Alejandro looked at his son.

“No.”

Gabriel smiled.

“Yes.”

Rafael stepped forward.

“You forged the documents.”

Gabriel laughed.

“You think I need documents?”

He pointed toward Daniel.

“The boy was raised inside the organization.”

“He knows every rule.”

“Every account.”

“Every contact.”

“Every secret.”

“He was trained to inherit everything.”

Daniel looked at Alejandro.

“I didn't want any of it.”

Gabriel smiled.

“But you were born for it.”

“No.”

Daniel's voice became stronger.

“I was born to have a family.”

Gabriel's smile disappeared.

Alejandro looked at his son.

Pride filled his chest.

Then Gabriel pulled out a final document.

“This is why I need Isabella.”

Alejandro stared.

The document was an old trust agreement.

His father's signature.

Esteban's.

The beneficiary:

ISABELLA MONTERO.

But there was a second clause.

Alejandro read it twice.

His face changed.

“What is this?”

Gabriel smiled.

“The succession clause.”

Alejandro's voice became quiet.

“If Isabella refuses the trust…”

Gabriel finished:

“Daniel inherits it.”

Rafael's face went pale.

Gabriel continued.

“Your father designed it himself.”

Alejandro turned toward Esteban's name.

“No.”

A voice came from the doorway.

Esteban.

He was being pushed into the room in a wheelchair by two guards.

Alejandro stared.

“Dad?”

Esteban looked devastated.

Gabriel smiled.

“Ask him.”

Alejandro stepped toward his father.

“Did you create this?”

Esteban nodded.

“Yes.”

“Why?”

“To protect both children.”

Alejandro stared at him.

“By putting them against each other?”

“No.”

Esteban shook his head.

“The clause was never meant to activate.”

“Then why does it exist?”

“Because Gabriel forced me to sign it.”

Gabriel laughed.

“You always blame everyone else.”

Esteban looked at him.

“You threatened to kill Isabella.”

“I threatened to kill everyone.”

Esteban's voice hardened.

“And that's why I created a second clause.”

Alejandro looked at him.

“What clause?”

Esteban smiled faintly.

“The trust cannot be controlled by either child.”

Gabriel's expression changed.

“It can only be controlled by their parents.”

Alejandro froze.

Lucía looked at him.

“Their parents?”

Esteban nodded.

“Together.”

Gabriel's face darkened.

“That clause was destroyed.”

“No.”

Esteban looked toward Mateo.

“It was hidden.”

Mateo immediately understood.

“The archive.”

Esteban nodded.

“Find the blue ledger.”

Alejandro looked around.

“Where?”

Esteban pointed toward a wall.

“Behind the portrait.”

Mateo pulled the portrait down.

A hidden compartment appeared.

Inside was a blue leather ledger.

Alejandro opened it.

The final trust agreement was inside.

But something else was there.

A letter.

Written by Esteban.

Alejandro unfolded it.

“If you are reading this, then Elena failed to erase the truth.”

Alejandro continued reading.

“Your mother was never the architect of the Black Serpent.”

He looked at Elena.

She was still alive, barely conscious.

“She became its prisoner.”

Alejandro's eyes moved down the page.

“The true architect is Gabriel.”

Gabriel's face became expressionless.

The letter continued.

“But there is one more truth I could not reveal until you were safe.”

Alejandro's hands began trembling.

“Lucía's father was not merely a victim of the Black Serpent.”

He looked at Lucía.

She stared back.

“He was the man who nearly destroyed it.”

Lucía whispered:

“My father?”

Esteban's letter continued.

“He discovered that Gabriel had been creating false heirs and stealing family fortunes for decades.”

“He hid the evidence.”

“He entrusted it to his daughter.”

Lucía's eyes widened.

“What evidence?”

Alejandro looked at her.

Then the floor beneath them shook.

A hidden alarm began screaming.

Gabriel looked toward Victor.

“Do it.”

Victor pressed a button.

The archive doors locked.

Gas began pouring through the vents.

Lucía covered Isabella's mouth.

Mateo shouted:

“Get down!”

Alejandro grabbed Daniel.

Rafael pulled Sofia toward the emergency exit.

Gabriel calmly walked toward the stairs.

“You have five minutes.”

Alejandro shouted:

“Why are you doing this?”

Gabriel stopped.

He looked back.

“Because the evidence your father-in-law hid…”

He smiled.

“…isn't in this house.”

Alejandro stared.

“Where is it?”

Gabriel pointed at Lucía.

“Ask your wife.”

Everyone looked at Lucía.

She stood frozen.

A memory was returning.

A small wooden box.

Her father's hands.

His voice.

“If they ever take your memories, the key will still be inside you.”

Lucía suddenly touched the silver pendant around her neck.

Her face changed.

“This.”

Alejandro stared.

“What?”

“My father gave me this.”

Rafael stepped closer.

“Open it.”

Lucía pulled at the pendant.

It split apart.

Inside was a tiny memory card.

Everyone froze.

Gabriel's expression finally showed fear.

“No.”

Alejandro looked at him.

For the first time—

the old man was afraid.

Lucía held up the tiny card.

“This is what you spent seven years trying to find.”

Victor raised his weapon.

But before he could fire—

Daniel stepped between them.

“Touch my mother…”

His eyes hardened.

“…and you'll have to go through me.”

The gas continued filling the room.

The clock on the wall reached four minutes.

And Alejandro realized the final battle wasn't about money anymore.

May you like

It was about the evidence hidden inside a pendant—

and the truth that could bring down the entire Black Serpent.
