CHAPTER 5: The Letter That Revealed Ethan’s Mother’s Killer

The abandoned Blackwood factory was silent.

Too silent.

Only the sound of the wind moving through the broken windows filled the empty building.

Ethan Blackwood stood frozen.

The letter in his hands felt heavier than anything he had ever held.

Not because of the paper.

Because of the words written on it.

“To my sons, Ethan and Noah
”

For twenty-eight years, Ethan believed he was the only child of William Blackwood.

The only heir.

The only person his father left behind.

But the truth was standing in front of him.

Noah Voss Blackwood.

His brother.

The son erased from history.

Ethan looked up.

“Where did you get this?”

Noah didn’t answer immediately.

“From the same place your family hid everything else.”

“What place?”

Noah looked around the abandoned factory.

“Here.”

Ethan frowned.

“This factory?”

Noah nodded.

“Your father built this place before Blackwood Enterprises became an empire.”

A pause.

“He kept his first secrets here.”

Ethan opened the letter again.

The handwriting was unmistakable.

His father’s.

The man who rarely showed emotion.

The man who always talked about legacy.

But this letter sounded different.

Human.

Afraid.

“I failed both of my sons.”

“One grew up believing he was alone.”

“The other grew up believing he was unwanted.”

Ethan’s fingers tightened around the paper.

His father knew.

He knew everything.

Noah watched him.

“You spent your life wondering why your father was distant.”

Ethan said nothing.

“Why he never talked about feelings.”

A pause.

“Why your mother looked afraid before she died.”

Ethan looked at him sharply.

“How do you know about my mother?”

Noah’s expression changed.

“Because she was the only person who tried to save me.”

The words shocked Ethan.

“My mother knew you?”

“Yes.”

“No.”

Ethan shook his head.

“She never mentioned you.”

Noah smiled sadly.

“She couldn’t.”

“Why?”

“Because she was threatened.”

The air became cold.

Ethan stepped closer.

“Who threatened her?”

Noah looked directly at him.

“Your grandmother.”

Ethan froze.

“Margaret?”

Noah nodded.

“The woman everyone thinks protected the Blackwood family.”

A bitter smile.

“She protected the name.”

Twenty years earlier

William Blackwood had fallen in love with Elena Voss.

She was intelligent.

Ambitious.

Powerful.

Together, they created a child.

Noah.

But Margaret Blackwood believed the Voss family was beneath the Blackwood legacy.

She wanted her son to marry someone who strengthened the empire.

Not someone who challenged it.

So she erased Elena.

And she erased Noah.

“But my mother
”

Ethan’s voice broke slightly.

“What happened to her?”

Noah looked away.

“She found proof.”

“Proof of what?”

“That Margaret planned everything.”

Noah explained.

Years ago, Ethan’s mother discovered hidden financial documents.

Documents showing Margaret had manipulated company ownership.

She had secretly transferred assets.

Created fake agreements.

Destroyed anyone who threatened her control.

Including Elena.

Including Noah.

Including her own family.

“She wanted control of Blackwood Enterprises.”

Noah said.

“Not for your father.”

“Not for you.”

“Not even for the family.”

A pause.

“For herself.”

Ethan remembered his childhood.

The arguments.

His father’s silence.

His mother’s sadness.

The night she died.

Everyone told him it was an accident.

But now

He wasn’t sure anymore.

“What does this have to do with Emma?”

Noah looked at him.

“Everything.”

Ethan frowned.

Noah continued:

“Emma discovered the same thing your mother discovered.”

“What?”

“That the Blackwood inheritance was never meant to go only to you.”

Ethan’s expression changed.

Noah handed him another document.

A legal agreement.

Signed by William Blackwood.

The title:

THE BLACKWOOD FAMILY TRUST SUCCESSION AGREEMENT

Ethan read it.

His eyes widened.

Because according to the document

The inheritance was divided.

Between two sons.

Ethan.

And Noah.

“My father wanted both of us to inherit?”

Noah nodded.

“Yes.”

“Then why didn’t he tell me?”

Noah looked at him.

“Because he was afraid.”

“Of what?”

“Of Margaret.”

Suddenly, Ethan’s phone rang.

Emma.

He answered immediately.

“Emma?”

Her voice was tense.

“Ethan, where are you?”

“I’m handling something.”

“No.”

A pause.

“You need to come back.”

He heard fear in her voice.

“What happened?”

Emma hesitated.

Then whispered:

“Someone broke into our room.”

Ethan’s entire body went still.

“What?”

“The hospital security found someone inside.”

“Who?”

Emma’s voice became quieter.

“They didn’t catch him.”

A pause.

“But they found something.”

Ethan tightened his grip on the phone.

“What?”

Emma answered:

“A photograph.”

“Of what?”

Silence.

Then:

“Of me.”

Ethan looked at Noah.

Someone was escalating.

Fast.

When Ethan returned to the hospital

Detective Ryan was already there.

The photograph sat inside an evidence bag.

Emma looked exhausted.

Ryan turned toward Ethan.

“We found fingerprints.”

Ethan immediately asked:

“Whose?”

Ryan looked serious.

“They belong to someone connected to the Blackwood family.”

Ethan felt his stomach drop.

“Who?”

Ryan placed the report down.

The name was written clearly.

William Blackwood.

Ethan stared.

“That’s impossible.”

Ryan nodded.

“It should be.”

A pause.

“But the fingerprints are real.”

Emma looked at Ethan.

“Your father died five years ago.”

Everyone knew it.

The funeral.

The records.

The grave.

Everything.

So how could his fingerprints appear on evidence from tonight?

Then Ethan noticed something else.

Written on the back of the photograph.

A message.

Four words.

“HE NEVER LEFT.”

Nobody spoke.

Because suddenly

The question was no longer:

Who was attacking Emma?

Or who was controlling Claire?

Or why was Noah erased?

The real question was terrifying.

Was William Blackwood actually dead?

Across the city

Inside a dark room

A man watched the news report about the Blackwood investigation.

He smiled.

Older.

But alive.

He looked at a photograph of Ethan.

Then Noah.

Then Emma.

And whispered:

“My sons finally found each other.”

A pause.

“But they still don’t know the truth.”

He picked up a phone.

Dialed one number.

When the call connected, he said:

“Prepare everything.”

May you like

A cold smile appeared.

“The Blackwood family is about to learn who their real enemy is.”
