CHAPTER 12: The Uncle Who Controlled the Blackwood Empire From the Shadows

The name remained on the screen.

VICTOR BLACKWOOD.

For several seconds

Nobody spoke.

Nobody wanted to believe it.

Because Victor wasn’t a stranger.

He wasn’t an enemy from outside the family.

He was the man who had always been there.

The man who attended Ethan’s school events when William was “too busy.”

The man who sat beside Margaret during every family meeting.

The man who told Ethan:

“The Blackwood family survives because we protect our own.”

Ethan stared at the photograph.

His hands slowly tightened.

“No.”

His voice was low.

“That can’t be true.”

Emma looked at him.

“Ethan
”

He shook his head.

“Victor raised me.”

A pause.

“When my father disappeared, he was the one who stayed.”

Ryan looked at him carefully.

“And that’s exactly why he was dangerous.”

Ethan looked at him.

“What do you mean?”

Ryan pointed at the screen.

“People don’t suspect the person standing closest to them.”

Noah crossed his arms.

“Your uncle had access to everything.”

The words made Ethan uncomfortable.

“Noah
”

“No.”

Noah looked at him.

“Think about it.”

A pause.

“Who knew where the family documents were?”

Ethan said nothing.

“Who knew about the inheritance?”

Silence.

“Who knew about your father’s disappearance?”

Ethan slowly looked away.

Because the answer was obvious.

Victor knew.

Twenty Years Earlier

Victor Blackwood was never the strongest person in the room.

He never needed to be.

While William built the company

Victor studied the people controlling it.

While William chased success

Victor studied weaknesses.

He understood one thing better than anyone:

Power did not belong to the person who owned everything.

Power belonged to the person who knew everything.

And Victor knew everything.

Every secret.

Every betrayal.

Every weakness.

Back in the mansion

Emma watched Ethan struggle.

She understood his pain.

Because this wasn’t just about discovering an enemy.

It was discovering that someone you trusted was never who you thought.

“Ethan.”

He looked at her.

“You don’t have to defend him because he helped you.”

A pause.

“You can be grateful for what he did
”

Her eyes became serious.

“And still accept what he may have done.”

Ethan looked at her.

Those words hurt.

But they were true.

Suddenly, William spoke.

“There is something I never told you about Victor.”

Everyone turned.

William looked exhausted.

“When I first disappeared
”

A pause.

“Victor was the only person who knew where I was.”

Ethan froze.

“What?”

William nodded.

“I trusted him.”

“Then why didn’t he tell me you were alive?”

William looked away.

“Because he promised he wouldn’t.”

Emma’s expression changed.

“Why?”

William answered:

“Because Victor told me something.”

A pause.

“He said if Ethan knew the truth
”

“They would kill him.”

Noah narrowed his eyes.

“They?”

William nodded.

“The Inner Circle.”

Ryan immediately became alert.

“So Victor wasn’t acting alone.”

“No.”

William looked at the documents.

“Victor was connected to them.”

The room became heavier.

Because now they understood.

Margaret was not the only person hiding secrets.

The Blackwood empire itself was built around hidden alliances.

Then Ethan’s phone rang.

Everyone became silent.

Unknown number.

Ethan answered.

“Hello?”

A familiar voice responded.

“Ethan.”

His face changed.

Because he recognized it.

Victor.

“Uncle?”

Victor laughed softly.

“So you finally found out.”

Ethan’s eyes darkened.

“Where are you?”

Victor ignored the question.

“You must be angry.”

A pause.

“You probably think I betrayed you.”

Ethan gripped the phone.

“Did you?”

Silence.

Then Victor answered:

“I protected you.”

Emma looked at Ethan.

Victor continued:

“You think your father was the victim.”

A pause.

“You think Margaret was the villain.”

Another pause.

“You think Noah was abandoned.”

His voice became colder.

“But you still don’t understand the truth.”

Ethan’s expression hardened.

“Then explain.”

Victor laughed.

“Meet me.”

Ryan immediately shook his head.

“No.”

But Ethan ignored him.

“Where?”

Victor gave an address.

An old Blackwood property.

Before ending the call, Victor said one final thing.

“Come alone.”

The call ended.

“No.”

Emma’s voice was firm.

Ethan looked at her.

“I have to go.”

“You don’t.”

“He knows something.”

“He also knows how to manipulate you.”

Ethan looked frustrated.

“Emma, if Victor knows where my father’s secrets are
”

She interrupted:

“He also knows where your weaknesses are.”

Nobody spoke.

Because everyone knew she was right.

Then Noah stepped forward.

“I’ll go.”

Ethan looked at him.

“No.”

Noah smiled slightly.

“For twenty years, I wanted answers.”

A pause.

“Now I can finally get them.”

Ryan shook his head.

“You don’t know what Victor is capable of.”

Noah looked at him.

“Neither did my father.”

Emma looked at all of them.

Then she made a decision.

“No one goes alone.”

Ethan immediately objected.

“No.”

She looked at him.

“You promised you would stop leaving me behind.”

Silence.

Because he had promised.

Finally, Ethan nodded.

“Together.”

That night

The three heirs of the Blackwood family traveled to the abandoned property.

Ethan.

Noah.

And Sophia.

They entered the old mansion.

The place had been empty for years.

But someone had been living there.

A table was prepared.

Three chairs.

Three glasses.

And one envelope.

On the envelope were three names:

ETHAN BLACKWOOD

NOAH VOSS BLACKWOOD

SOPHIA BLACKWOOD

Sophia looked nervous.

“He knew we were coming.”

Ethan opened the envelope.

Inside was a letter.

Victor’s handwriting.

“To the children of William Blackwood
”

Ethan continued reading.

“You believe I stole from you.”

“You believe I destroyed your family.”

A pause.

“But the truth is
”

The lights suddenly turned on.

A voice came from the balcony.

“You should ask your father why he really abandoned all of you.”

Everyone looked up.

Victor Blackwood stood there.

Older.

Calm.

Smiling.

Ethan stepped forward.

“Why did you lie?”

Victor looked at him.

“Because your father was never the hero you think he was.”

William’s son froze.

Victor continued:

“He created this war.”

A pause.

“He created the secrets.”

Another pause.

“And he created the enemy you are fighting now.”

Noah’s eyes narrowed.

“You’re lying.”

Victor smiled.

“Am I?”

Then Victor pressed a button.

A screen appeared.

A video began playing.

William Blackwood appeared.

But this time

He wasn’t afraid.

He was angry.

And the words he spoke destroyed everything.

“If anything happens to me
”

“It means I failed.”

The video continued.

“Because the person I trusted most
”

Everyone leaned closer.

“
is the person who will betray me.”

The screen froze.

And the final image appeared.

William’s finger pointing at one name.

VICTOR BLACKWOOD.

Ethan looked at his uncle.

Victor looked back.

No fear.

No regret.

Only a cold smile.

“Now you understand.”

A pause.

“I didn’t destroy the Blackwood family.”

Victor stepped forward.

“I saved it.”

Emma whispered:

“Saved it from what?”

Victor looked at her.

And his answer changed everything.

“From the real owner of the empire.”

Everyone froze.

Because Victor wasn’t claiming power.

He was warning them.

Someone else was coming.

Someone more powerful.

Someone who had been controlling everything from the beginning.

Victor looked at Ethan.

“Your family has been fighting the wrong enemy.”

A pause.

“The person behind all of this
”

May you like

The lights flickered.

“Is someone you’ve already met.”
